I’m looking for advice on an intake for my Tacoma. They all seem to be pretty affordable. I’m not looking to do a snorkel. What have you done and why do you like or dislike it?

    Thanks!

    Oh look, another mod....
I went with the factory intake that came with the truck. It works like a champ and hasn't failed me yet.

    Enough for now
I changed out the stock intake scoop for the TRD intake “air accelerator” donut looking piece. Cost $40

Stock is a good choice for some but I’ve seen every fast and furious movie and my mom would call be a Buster if I kept any of my cars stock.

I also went with the stock unit. As it already draws outside air and is already paid for.

Aftermarket bits make nice noise and can look pretty. Even if one is selected that actually does work better, it will be the most $/hp you can spend.

    Please post pics of Buster.

For modern vehicles there's no data based evidence that intakes ..effect performance or mpg's... only nee#to modify if fitting a snorkel..or really big tires and you need more room in wheel well area

Not much of anything. At least not traditional bolt on stuff.

A tune reportedly improves driveability. Not sure if there is dyno documented HP increase though.@tonered might chime in here.

Gears can improve driveability, depending on the use of the truck.

Where the struggle begins is with oversized aggressive wheel/tire packages, lifts and overloading because I might sleep in the woods some day.

Would you guys stop hovering with your “I stayed stock because I’ve watched some YouTube videos” answers.

If you’re not into intake mods we don’t need your response here. Let this be an easy to search thread from those with intake experience.

Thank you all for being awesome.

Lots of those exist. You must have missed them.

All brands of intake have been dyno'd by private individuals over the years. Absolutely no performance gain. As a matter of fact, even with no intake was there a gain.
Buy solely on looks and sounds.

You came here for suggestions and answers. Aftermarket intakes don't do nothing as in horsepower to ours trucks/ engine, except noise. That's why everyone is staying stock. Waste of money/time.

It's telling that TRD claims on their website horsepower gains for both their intake and exhaust but no actual numbers and more importantly, no data ever given to back up those claims. It's all marketing b.s. designed for the gullible. The TRD intake looks good but how many of y'all drive around with the hood wide open. If you insist on that at least you can replace that cloth K&N-isn filter with a genuine Toyota paper one as they have the same dimensions.

    As are the letters TRD.

Nothing on any consumer grade Toyota is a result of their racing program. It's just for the sticker fans.
