Something that isn’t too loud is my only no-exception parameter. Looking at the AFE rock basher but seems to have mixed reviews.

most people just cut the oem exhaust near the rear axle for "high clearance" - free 99

I mean, if you dont care about sound. why fix what aint broken, just lop that bitch off lol

if you want to change the sound, thats a different story.

additional consideration: if youve yet to reroute your crossover pipe (and youre not a welder), then perhaps a trip to the local muffler shop is in order anyways.
do the crossover reroute, have them lop the tail end off for you, and you can buy whatever muffler youve researched and want and have them install it all at the same time.

Yeah I noticed how damn low that piping sits while doing my rock sliders. I may well take a trip to the muffler shop for that.
Also, as far as cutting the stock pipe near the tip, maybe a stupid question but is there any real need to remove the exhaust to do so; provided I’m using a proper TPI blade for metal and am cautious about not cutting anything else?

Chop it and if you have an OEM exhaust tip throw it back on.

Any reason not to cut it while it’s on the truck if I’m careful with the sawsall and use an 18tpi blade?

Nah, a second set of hands to help keep it from vibrating is nice for the guy holding the saw. but its not necessary to remove it or anything

just think twice, cut once. dont cut it too high so that its dumping into your spare or something because heat is blowing out, pretty much the only complexity involved lol

I cut mine off in the garage with a sawzall. It was a very satisfying experience.

Onto my next question. Besides having a shop do it, any recommendations on a high clearance or rerouted Y pipe?

grab photos from the various reroute threads on the forums

take down a few notes as you read those same forums

then go to a local shop, with the pictures and notes for concerns. because every muffler guy is gunna do it slightly differently.

my notes/concerns were like, "heat concerns around transfer case actuator housing" (its plastic) and "clearance with the skids" (i had my Tcase skid in the bed for fitment during my exhaust work). "dont move the Y pipe junction incase i want to bolt up a pre-built cat back later"

I ended up going back to the shop to have things changed or altered because i tried to verbally convey my concerns the first time (and the shop owner kicked me out of the bay). It was probably fine, but im sorta ocd with things, as is the theme around here. luckily with some pictures, notes and a few minutes on the lift with me pointing things out, the foreman was on it and did everything exactly how i wanted the second time around.

Dump it just after the muffler, no problem with clearance or heat and it actually will sound a little better.

Use a sawzall and bob the tip.:sawzall:
Put a cheap chrome downspout tip on it from AutoZone like this. In a couple weeks it will color match itself to the same as the rest of the pipe. Your taco will look like a Volt and will even get better mileage and more horsepower.815BA509-A94D-47CF-BC94-0D547C16C331.jpg

Although I’m aware that people bob their exhaust, I’d like to offer a different perspective. I don’t intentionally bash my truck on rocks, but I put it into enough peril to have destroyed front and rear bumpers, passenger side doors, and bashed the crap out of my front skid, yet my exhaust and bed sides are just fine.

I would consider an exhaust reroute if and when I decide to install a mid skid plate in order to avoid the hump, but I don’t see myself bobbing my exhaust unless I cut my bedsides to install a high clearance rear bumper.
