Good thing I got so much done yesterday. Apparently, my back didn't like my lifting my winch onto and off of the workbench yesterday. Didn't seem to be a problem until about 9:45 last night, then it went downhill fairly rapidly. Wound up taking an ambulance ride and spent 3+ hrs in the ER. Got back home about 5AM. I have never had pain like that before...even kidney stones weren't that bad. Even Oxycodone took about 3 hours to finally take the edge off.

Hoping this doesn't impact the sliders and skids budget too bad. Guess I'll be seeing how good my insurance is...

Oy I'm having flashbacks of 151 from when I lived in Madison during college. Are they responsible for US-10 west of I-41? That's the one road I always know is bad. If the beer at Central Waters wasn't so delicious I wouldn't even go that way.

Damn dude that sucks, hope you are doing better now! Heal up and sending good thoughts your way.

Back pain always sucks, sounds like you really overworked it. Hopefully between time and the meds it will heal quickly.

It probably was. There were 3 primary hwy contractors for some time covering much of the state and federal projects. This was because the 3 were rigging bids between themselves, freezing just about anyone else out and dividing the work amongst themselves. If memory serves me correctly, 1 of the 3 was put out of business and another may have walked away from hwy projects (at least for a while). Vinton still continues on and still gets contracts to fix their shoddy work from 30 years ago. What a racket!

Funny thing is that my back felt so good all afternoon and evening up to that point. I've had problems since high school and have found ways to catch myself before I do something bad. Usually, just some stretching and a couple of simple Yoga positions will be all it needs. Yesterday may just simply have been caused by being (too) tired from not sleeping well this past week. Once the Oxy finally kicked in, everything relaxed, I could feel muscles relaxing as I stretched. So far today, the only lingering effects are general tiredness from being so clenched-up for about 7 hrs.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Take today slower and kick some ass tomorrow I guess.

Thanks for the offer. The winch is about 60#. While that's nothing to sneeze at, the other weekend I carried my 2 80# sand bags up from my basement and put them in the box of my truck without a problem. I used as good a technique as I could, going slow to make sure all felt well so I wouldn't tear sh&t up.

Once the winch is mounted in the bumper, that bitch is only being moved on a jack or by 2 people.

When I installed my bumper my dad helped me, but could have used a 3rd person. It was just awkward to handle.

The buddy where I'll probably end up mounting the bumper has an engine hoist. That should help.

Hey-get on the mend. This summer has definitely had me rethinking my winch that moves from one end to the other... Dang thing is heavy!

I've noticed a few sections of newer highway around the state that are absolute garbage. Having a firm suspension makes it even worse.

Thank you for this! I noticed it first in Milwaukee in a section of the Mitchell interchange. I was wondering if It was going to become a trend.

Damn! Get some rest and I hope you feel better quickly!

+1 to this! @OldSchlPunk , I'm happy to help when I can. It sounds like you have a good plan for the next project, though. :)

when I installed mine I used a motorcycle jack with some plywood and a scrap 2x4 support. CE5C1046-4466-4A99-BD02-344BBE540F7F.jpg

    Hope you feel better man!

I know I'm too young to be complaining about back pain or giving remedies but I've recently started trying Tiger Balm and its good for the price. My shoulder and lower back give me lip every so often and it helps.

If you need help just let me know.

When I did the front bumper I used my deer hoist. I can see where 3 people would be needed for the rear bumper.

Thanks all for the intel on WI Hwys and the welcome wagon! Good to know it is not just us!

I've been debating dropping down to the OME 887's to see if it helps. I haven't put a bumper or winch on it yet, so 888's might be a bit overkill and not loaded enough.

151 is the worst of them all. Not horrible in our other vehicle, but our Tacoma becomes a pogo stick at about 55mph.

As I've gone over what happened yesterday, I'm starting to think it was because I wasn't properly caffeinated...I only had one Mt Dew yesterday. ( My son got a good chuckle over that idea.)
