Just upgraded to the KDmax 9 tune.
I had OV2 tune for just over 2 years and it was miles better than stock. But still had some occasional engine surging and the throttle could have been a little better.
In the 20 miles I have driven I feel the KDmax was worth the upgrade over OV, the throttle response is better and the low end power is better.

Jeff @MN FrozenTaco23 did a great job, if you are in Minneapolis area and want a tune I'd highly recommend him

    Steve just sent me this…
Is this what I can expect to see ? I don’t think that mpg has ever seen over 19 before. I can’t thank you enough for the tune I absolutely love it, I also ordered the intake spacer.

Danny and his wife drove down from Jackson, AL to my home location to get a KDMAX Pro 9.0 tune. He decided on the Normal throttle and loved his test drive!

Afterward they ate lunch at a local establishment and drove home. Here’s his comments on how the tune performed…

Is a tune right for you? Does it correct or fix all that is wrong with my Tacoma?

Some will say that all the positive comments on KDMAX tunes don’t reflect real life. It can’t be that good, can it?

Well I try to not overplay the tune although I’m a koolaid drinker. I get excited telling people about the tune and it’s benefits and sometimes I probably oversell it

Take one of my customers from Madison, MS. He and a buddy came to Hattiesburg and both got KDMAX Pro 9.0 and Normal throttle.

Both took 25-35 minute test drives and left satisfied. But after a week Jimmy texted to see if some adjustments could be made (wanted some adjustments to his throttle and gear shift points for smoothness and
to better suit his driving style and area). Kreg worked with the customers feedback and adjusted his tune and we met up to re-flash yesterday.

Here’s his comments after his drive back home.

Look me up and let see if a KDMAX pro tune can fix what ails your Tacoma!

I highly recommend getting a KDMAXX tune, it greatly improved the performance of my Tacoma. I had no idea my truck could run this good! Took mine up to Jim today (bulldogppas), I highly recommend going to Jim, he was very friendly, and gave great advice and information on the tune. He gets a 10/10 from me, I’ll definitely return to him should there be future updates.

I have a question for all on here. I just picked up my brand new 2023 access cab TRD OR automatic. I am new to these tacomas and wondering if they have fixed a lot of the shifting and stuff on the 2023’s, or if it’s still good to get the tunes?

I drive very easily around town as I’m use to having older vehicles. My truck will be getting a Topper for the year and I will be towing a casita travel trailer on trips periodically with a tongue weight of around 350lbs. I’ve read through most of this post and just wanted some feedback.

I value MPG’s and reliability most of all. I’d like to have this truck for a very long time, so the cost of the tune isn’t even a consideration for me. Just want to know if it’s actually useful for my needs.

    Thank you

hey Tyler, great question. To be transparent, I am one of the KDMax installers.
the 2023 is the exact same as the other model years, with the same computer programming as the 2021 and 2022. There were no changes or improvements made to the logic or drivetrain.
You will get the same benefits as improvements as those who sought them for the last couple years!

Thank you for the response. I had read some thought each Tacoma is slightly different or maybe Toyota had updated stuff, but it’s hard to tell. So for towing and a light foot is there a slice train tune I should be asking for, or a certain way they map it? One of the installers already got back to me and I’m planning to meet them down in southern New Mexico if I go that route.

    thanks again,

    Tyler

The Lite tip-in setting gives you the most pedal play to work with. If you are stock built, you may like that route, but I am sure they wouldn’t mind letting you try the different settings — the only difference between the settings is in the first three gears. the ECT button is not quite “proportionally” enchanted, but Gives you more of that responsiveness and allows you to hold gears longer — so still maintaining its function for towing (ECT + S shifting as needed).

I have a 2020 Tacoma Pro and thought it wasn't really terrible from the factory. Definitely not great, but seemed better than many on this forum have complained about. I have the latest KDMax 9.0 tune and it is SIGNIFICANTLY better than my stock tune. The tuners claim more power and I don't doubt it, but the drive-ability is where it is at for me with the tune. It seems to keep the truck in the right rev range and gear. 100% would do it again in a heartbeat and would recommend it for sure. If I thought it was smoke, I wouldn't be running it and would be honest about it. I've tried stuff before only to remove it if I didn't like it. I'm running the lite tip-in setting. I liked the tune so much that I am also working on getting my new '23 4Runner dialed in on KDMax.
