    Nah brother that's fucked

Even after my truck was submerged that very same day I had every module out, cleaned, and dried so that really helped

The ecu ended up frying itself later on though

my 01 tundra sat in a field with its windows rolled down and it started right up after a set of plugs, fuel tank cleaning and a fuel sending unit

I don't think this kind of damage happened from a leaky windshield after a single rain storm

Side question. I see two of the valves look slightly open as compared to all the rest look sealed flat. Is this ok or am I worrying over nothing. These are the new heads.

I plugged my ecu back in and it was able to pull codes whereas it couldn’t before. So something got better. Thoughts on that? Still thinking 50/50 chance?

Nope, I think the water damage that was done and the rust that had been going on is seriously going muck up those paths on the board. How much longer before the replacement arrives?

The fact it did not get wet while running!

None of the fuses opened while cranking I think you might be up at 60/40.

Knowing my luck would never be this good.

Water damage is one of the few things that might prevent a rebuild.

I dealt with a similar issue last year. The ECU would only communicate while the truck was running, and even then only intermittently. It turned out the ECU had at least one fried circuit. I was very lucky to source a spare and it all seems to work fine now.

My windshield does have a crack, and some of the weatherstripping is gone around the top, so I wonder if that could have been the cause.

Can anyone confirm that the only way the ECU could get wet is through the plugs, or could a windshield leak cause issues like the OP's and mine?

So let’s say it does start. I could still be running a risk by driving all the way back to San Diego in two days..

Last thing you want is to be stuck on 99 or I-5 somewhere because the ECU had some sort of catastrophic failure due to the corroded paths. Just saying. Would suck to have to tow from any distance while on your trip south. If you can replace it prior to leaving, I would. If you can't wait, sign up for AAA if you aren't already. Kudos on completing the Head Gasket

Unless your truck is submerged in water the pressure will allow the water in. The plugs or any holes in the case of the ECM is the only way to get water inside .

When doing swaps I always pitch the ECM plugs in a down hill direction.

I was thinking The Op would have the spare ECM before leaving.

Being I never drive on Interstates I never think about being stuck on one.

    Best of luck!

    Update:

Finally finished up this head gasket job, just slapped in a new radiator too and… IT RUNS!!!

I’m still burping the coolant system as we speak but it started right up first try. Seems to idle fine. Gonna take it for a spin soon here and drive it the rest of the day before I feel comfortable driving back tomorrow.

I have an ecu coming in Thursday which is too late for me. I’ll probably have my parents mail it back down to me. I kinda need to leave tomorrow. I’m already 4 days out of work. And luckily I do have AAA membership so worst case I’ll be ready for a tow.

If I were you, and you are actually goin to take the chance, I would wrap it up in plastic stretch wrap so if it rains you will be semi safe on it getting wet.
