That is fucking bullshit. In no repair manual for any leaf spring Toyota does it say to disassemble the rear brakes to install leaf springs.

(Bullshit on the part of the service writer, who is also not a technician/mechanic)

I had an older Avalon that did this exact same thing. It put me in a ditch twice in one day during a snow/ice storm from just locking everything up instead of functioning correctly. I got to work and traded that POS in on my Cruze on the way home. First and last time ive ever done that impulsive lol but that car was going down the road one way another after that day.

This is some BS man. That doesn't even make sense as to taking the rear brakes apart to do leaf springs. As far as corporate telling you that, that's also bullshit, definitely a great way to make a loyal customer. Sucks they're jerking you around like this.

Oh I completely agree. I even asked the service writer to show me where the procedures require the removal of the brake system and showed him the install instructions from Ironman and he still wont budge. He has tainted this repair as "outside influence" because of the aftermarket leaf springs installed on the truck. Legends said if I can get Molle to change their diagnosis to anything else, they will be able to warranty everything out without question.

There's a write-up somewhere on how to fix that. There's also a TSB for it, but idk if it's still available.

Probably needed to Reset the VSC. I did and my truck will still throw trac when it shouldn't. Nearly throws me off the road on this one corner. It thinks the outside tire is losing traction so it brakes that wheel. The rest is physics.

This. There's a write-up on using a paperclip or a length of wire to reset/reprogram it.

Take it to another dealer but don't tell them what happened to this dealer. Talk to my guys here and that's what we came up with. The only other thing it's possible is that the service writer doesn't know how to talk to the mechanic and the mechanic is saying that it's the bracket that holds your e-brake cable that might have gotten moved due to the leaf spring install.

I appreciate you asking around! I took it to Legends and they said that the warranty claim has already been identified on my vehicle as outside influence so if I take it to anyone else, they will see what Molle said already. I spoke with the tech (probably a porter if I had to guess) who looked at the truck and he told me that whoever took the spring off of the bottom of the shoes that sits just in front of the parking brake levers put it on backwards and that is what caused all of this damage. I told him that the direction of the spring doesn't matter mechanically as it is a symmetric spring...regardless...that spring has not been removed since the truck was built. I showed him the rivet that was bent going through the backing plate and explained how the shoe slid off that rivet so most likely the rivet wasn't square from the factory and he said, "yeah you might be right but there's no way to know for sure so you should just replace everything so you know it's good to go. But it wont be covered under warranty."

damn did the cruze at least do better for you lol

i had the dealer do something on it back when i first got it unsure what they did because i was very new to the truck so unsure if it was reset :notsure:
you talking about the woods chapel corner going on to ligget?

i remember doing the paper clip thing right before i sold the truck since i replaced the broken abs wire but it wasnt winter yet so unsure if it fixed it but since you also had the same issue guess it wouldnt do much to help

He mentioned the warranty claims already open on his truck, which means let's say it showed up here. I scan the truck in boom that Vin will pop that warranty and then we'll have all of the notes from that dealer. Now some dealers are skittish and will basically say we're not going to step on their toes, they already identified a problem. We're just going to go with it. Some dealers are not full of morons that will look at that and say wait a minute... No idiot should be taking the drums apart to put leaf springs on.

For example, if it came here... We would have no problems opening a case with Toyota and basically calling Legends out for being idiots. And then attaching the RM document showcasing that leaf springs and taking brake Drums apart are two different jobs and are not related whatsoever.

The Toyota warranty case guys are not idiots either, however, keep in mind for every 10 warranty claims to come in, probably eight of them are due to customers being complete morons.

Battery warranties are easy. You hook up the tester and then it fails the battery and prints a warranty code or it doesn't fail the battery and you just run the battery down and then retest it and it fails and throws you a warranty code. Then they prorate it based on the age of the battery and boom you're in and out in 20 minutes.

    Everything else.....

ya my si it was just in a bad batch where they sent a notice about it saying it might fail and mine started to fail in winter so it was having a hard time starting at like 16k miles? was rather annoying to have my buddy jump my new car with his old 80s eco car lol

On that note... Everyone should carry a jump box. Much safer than cables onto another car. Not that you'll blower itself up, but with modern ECUs in everything... Currently dealing with a 22 Camry that was overvolted when it was jumped and we're having all kinds of issues with the computers now.

No, there's a corner on 7 heading towards 50. It's a steep hill with a semi sharp corner at the bottom of the valley. The truck thinks because the truck is leaning that the right tire has lost traction so it brakes it and well when you brake one side and not the other, the truck will go towards the braked side. Happens anytime you go through it over 40MPH.

I reset my VSC. It used to be way worse. I'd hop it on the triangle and it would try to shimmy me into the barrier. Now it barely notices it there.

In other words. I'm tempted to pull my SAIS pump and live with the disrupted traction control, VSC and ABS lights.

Toyota Engineers: We'll make it so whenever there's an issue with the system all the 'safety features' (read nannies) get disabled so they take it in sooner.
    Toyota Execs: Genius!

End-users: Tracs off? HELL YEAH BROTHER!
