2022 SR5 DCSB 3.5 4WD. Just changed my oil at 3385 miles. The dipstick always showed over the full line since I got it, not much like 1/4 inch. Figured it was good until I changed it the first time. So just changed it and the oil is now much farther above the full mark and I’ve only put 6 quarts in. It’s the same distance above full that it is from add to full. I measured the oil I got out and it was 5.3 quarts ( and that amount was above full). Drove it 3 times parked for 10 mins each time and checked it. Still the same amount over full. WTF. Anyone notice this in their truck? Oil to the full mark after running and filling the filter would be about 5.1 to 5.2 quarts by my calculations. Maybe someone swapped a dipstick when they did the precheck? I’m stumped. Not worried about it just my ocd kicking in.
Gonna grab a bourbon and see what y’all come up with.

Did you replace the filter which would have removed some oil? If not, this could explain the extra.

The amount of oil from the low to high mark on the dipstick is 1.6 quarts.

And that same distance from add to full is the distance above the full line with 6 qts.

Let the truck sit longer than 10 minutes, sometimes some oil sits in the tube.

Well, removing 5.3 while adding 6 will show an increase on the dipstick. Wondering why only 5.3 came out.

Ok one more time. The dipstick showed over full since I bought it. Did before I changed it. 5.3 quarts had the oil above full. 6 quarts has it well over full.

Anyone have lengths of the 4 and 6 cyl dispsticks? I think mine is longer this showing excess when I’m fact it’s under.

I’d certainly wouldn’t leave it at what appears to be 1.6 quarts overfilled. If you had a Fumoto valve you’d be able to easily remove controlled amounts of oil to bring it right down to the upper mark on the stick. This might be something worth considering.if you had a clean container to drain your oil into you could drain, capture, install Fumoto and refill.

If I remove that oil then I’m at 4.4 quarts. Not doing that.

That dipstick is hard af to read. Only way to get accurate reading is to get it up to temp… park.. wait 5-10 min pull the stick only once… and then it’ll show the appropriate level.
Subsequent times will have oil smear show wrong levels.

I hate this dipstick with a passion

Not hard to read at all. And I did drive and park as stated before.

Will measure mine from the bottom of the yellow base to the end of the stick.

How far above the full mark? Like "I accidentally mistook the trans pan for the oil pan" full?

I wasn’t suggesting you drain and leave it out of the engine. I was suggesting you could drain and refill the engine with what you just drained to the top level of the dipstick.
