If you are going to learn to use stones, pick up a few really cheap knives to ruin/practice on before you attempt to sharpen one of your good blades.

I have a Neutron and this is the Neutron 2. I also have their Fixed Blade that they stopped making. Really good quality knives!

    Help me find a knife!

    Needs:
    2-4" blade
    Folding
    Pocket clip
    one-handed opening

    Usage:
Daily carry for work at barn. Mostly to cut twine of hay bales.

    What I know about knives:

    Questions:
    Serrated or straight?
Body? (is that what its called?) I would prefer not-metal. It's freakin cold here and I dont want more cold on my hands.

The only other knife I ever had was a Spyderco that I was gifted by my dad when I graduated the police academy (and that was a reallllyyy long time ago ;) . I carried that thing every day, even in retirement, but lost it when all the shit got lost in the wildfire...) It's time for a new one, but I just dont know what I need, and I want to keep it pretty simply.
If someone is selling something they want to unload, Im not opposed to buying used. Or just give me some direction to find something that fits the needs above in retail.
    Thanks kindly!

For a multi purpose work knife, I really a partially serrated blade. They are harder to sharpen, but for cutting twine, rope, etc. I find it more useful. I'm not sure of your budget, but the Kershaw Blur with a partially serrated blade is my beater work knife and it's held up very well. It won't break the bank and you won't feel bad a really using it.

How much are you trying to spend? Why a folder as opposed to a small fixed blade? I’m a big proponent of the latter.

Although I always carry a folder too, because I’m a dork.

You might like a small pocket knife like a Case Bone Trapper. Not good for gloved hands and it doesn't lock but meets the needs for cutting baling string. Spyderco is still a good choice as well.

I'll throw a couple ideas out there. Nothing better than spending other people's money. :)

    1. Spyderco are still good knives. Not sure what you had before but if it worked well for you why not go with one again. If you want to stay below $100 there made in china knives are still good quality with a lower price point.
    2. Speaking of made in China, Civivi knives are good as well.
    3. Benchmade makes a good knife in the $125 and up price range. I like the bugout. It's super lightweight and durable. It can feel a little whimpy in the hand because of the lightweight being a high design priority. It makes a good carry knife that doesn't weigh a ton in the pocket. It gets some hate in the knife community now, but I think a lot of it is because the knife is so popular. The cool internet kids got to make fun of the thing everyone likes.

Here are a couple of websites to check out.
