You would probably have to redo the crossmember anyway if you added a crawler as the driveshaft would most likely be hitting it. Looks like it would be V8 instead LOL!!

    Very good points!

I remember a local guy years ago who built a similar concept to what you are trying to do. He ended up with an amazing one piece removable structure that held everything together - lower links, transmission, transfer case, etc. (sorry, don't have pics, it's been a while and he is not active anymore). But he could, technically, drop the entire driveline with lower links at once it he wanted to.

It really looked amazing, but the crossmember/skid combo ended up being extremely heavy on its own to be maneuverable, let alone trying to remove it with everything else attached to it. Make sure that doesn't happen to you!

That’s pretty rad. I thought about adding the factory transmission mount back, but I don’t like the idea of it being tied to the lower link mount. I feel like they need to be isolated as best they can. I don’t like how far back the new mount is, but the fact that it wraps around the whole tcase probably makes up for the longer span to the motor mounts

Agree with the idea of isolating of isolating links and transmission mount.

Really look forward to the development of your project. There are not very many Tacomas with 4-links. Always good to see somebody doing things differently!

Thanks, it’s been fun to try something different. Either way you skin it this is a crapload of work so kuddos to anyone who completes a SAS of any variety. I’m going to try to be lazy and outsource the regear and exhaust if I can find someone capable around here.

Words of truth! It still amazes me how much dishonesty goes on in different forums, Facebook, etc., when people talk about SAS on Tacomas. Many people make it sound like it's easy, cheap, etc. For some reason the myths and lies refuse to die lol. But I guess that's no different from other circles such as racing, bikes, etc.

Best feeling in the world when the parts pile commences lol.

And that's a very good start with that axle.

That’s the internet for you haha wasn’t too long ago people were pooing on me for wanting to four link it. They’re oddly quiet now, but I see them checking in below to stay up to date.

I think the rockslayer drama has tainted people's views on doing 4-links on Tacomas LOL.

I've been curious all along about your project because of how unique it is. The few 4-links Tacomas I've seen in person (not the rockslayer ones haha) were pretty tall, but they worked really well. Besides...I never really understood the obsession with extremely low SASed rigs. I think it was all more of a trend like anything else.

Can't beat the wonderful sound of FREE!

More money now to put towards other parts of the project. What are your goals?

Being as long as they are I don’t mind sitting at 26” on 42” tires. I think I’d belly out on everything any lower. I think I’ll have a better feel for it when it’s sitting on the ground with tires on. Hard to visualize things cramped in a garage. Wheelbase is shorter than I initially thought which is a plus. still pretty long, but I’m not going to fret over it.

Haha everything about these axles is massive and heavy as pee pee. Poor taco is going to hate it. I didn’t trust PVC and hose clamps for cycling the axle so I cut some regular tube for temporary/test links and tacked them on haha

    A) it's the SAS thread, not your personal build thread, and B) it will be interesting once all the other parts are bolted on to see how it all works.

    There! LOL

    A) Bullshit is exactly what my build is so this is a perfect spot
    B) 50% chance it explodes before making it out of the driveway, 95% chance I light it on fire and roll it down the mountain if I hit my head on one more tube

An update; box is fine, Toyota PS pump is failing, and the bolts on the box were loose. Frame is plated both sides so not gonna crush the frame over tightening. Gonna order a new pump and bolts should be fine.
