Does anyone know of a "MAF eliminator adapter" that can adapt the OEM airbox to just straight pipe? for a 1st gen.

I'm trying to build my own intake for my 3rz that eliminates the MAF and just uses regular 3in intake piping between that and the tb.

EDIT: found this product. Seems pretty cheap but the only one I found so going to give it a try since I don't have the means to weld aluminum to make my own.

I’ve got one on my airbox to a Spectre MAF housing to adjust the fuel trims on my ‘99 3rz. I reused the OEM rubber gasket and had to open the bolt holes just slightly.

I was planning on doing something similar with a 3rd gen airbox for my turbo build. I bought an extra MAF sensor and was planning on cutting the end off of it and using it as a block off plate of sorts. They are a dime a dozen from the junk yard.

That's not a bad idea either. I haven't done my own measurements, but from what I've surmised the ID of the MAF section is smaller in size than the rest of the piping.

Yeah if the MAF section of the piping is a weird size, it might be easier to go that route.

Ya I could realistically use any other adapter and just drill out my own bolt pattern.
I guess not having to drill 4 holes is worth the $6 price difference I paid for the one on scamazon :D

I just thought back to this and it got me thinking about what you said. Are you using a 3rd gen airbox on a 2nd/1st gen? I would assume it flows a good bit more than a factory 1st gen airbox so it might be good option to bring in more air rather than the typical cone filter.

I don't want to run one of those cone filters as it's just going to get plugged up very quickly offroad and do not bode well with water crossings. I would much rather have the protection and replaceable filters that a toyota OEM airbox has.

Does anyone have any experience with using any kind of different OEM airbox like that? or really any other filtration option that fits that criteria....
Do those prefilter bags for cone filters/etc help at all?
    Maybe a Donaldson powercore?

    @betterbuckleup

We used to use pantyhose on our 4wheeler cones even inside the airbox.

I had planned on using a 3rd gen stock airbox in my 2nd gen, but there was an issue with the lower section of the box hitting the wastegate so i just scratched that idea and sold it. It would have bolted up in 2 of the 3 stock holes though and i was going to cut off the extra one that is off the side. I too wanted a stock style airbox since i drive on a dirt road everyday, but it didnt work out in my case. I am running a large AEM cone style filter and one of their socks which has worked well so far, but i dont drive the truck thru water, so it probably isnt great for that

Gotcha. Ya it seems people have good things to say about the pre-filters on those.

Is that a dry or oiled filter?

My prefilter only seems to last about 2 years before it stretches and falls off on the trail. They work well for the dirt and water sprinkle.

what size filter are you using?
Based on my numbers using an online filter and HP calculator, the typical 5in long filter that people use won't flow enough for 220HP @ 4500 rpm.

Gets me a few hundred dirt miles before needing to clean it.
Also same size on the f350.

a few hundred with a prefilter? ugh that's terrible.
If only I had room for a ump or something.

That's my worst case when I'm stuck in the middle of the pack following people for a while. An aftermarket drop in filter will only get you as far too with the fender liner removed. I can get a full day out of the filter.

ya I'd imagine the no fender line is doing the most harm there. Mine are still in tact for now.
I got a K&N and drycharger bag to try out. Should be fine, but if I have problems later, I'll cross that road when I get to it.

There's just no room to fit anything like a ump or of the likes without hacking away at things
