Why would Amazon even want to get into vehicle manufacturing? Just because they drive vans doesn’t mean they want to manufacture them. It’s much simple to just buy the equipment from someone else.

I think when people say “Amazon” they are thinking Jeff Bezos. Jeff Bezos does more than just selling books now and even owns rockets.

The R2 line is supposed to be the “affordable” option at $50k ish starting price. Still not cheap but far closer to the cost of an average new vehicle than the R1 line.

I think it's safe to say at this point the C-Suite at Rivian is painfully unaware of the old adage "under promise and over deliver". They project a loss of a billion, turns out to be closer to six billion. They forecast production of 50k units, they then fall short of even producing 25k. No reason to think this location estimate of 400k is more likely to be half that at best.

They fell short by 663 vehicles from what they forecast in March. Not ideal but also not a large deficit. More important is they they showed a clear increase in production capacity every quarter.

Yea if a model 3 is 50, a far bigger/complex vehicle will never be that.

Again, it's the pattern of never meeting a goal, not for release dates, not for pricing, not for preorders, not for profit/loss, not for employee retention, etc...

And the maths are pretty simple, if all the preorders they claim to have stay on the books they'll never be able to dig out of the hole they've made for themselves.

So yet again, they over promise and under deliver.

They are supposedly going to be small SUV type, similar in dimensions to a RAV4 and with much less performance than the R1 line. Who knows what will happen by production in 2025/26 though.

They better hurry up and get this small SUV in production before there are 20 other small EVs to chose from by more reputable manufacturers. The only thing Rivian has going for itself now is that they are the only midsize EV truck and SUV available.

I’ve had the Rivian for just under three months now and 3200 miles, no major complaints so far. I’ve saved $800 in gas compared to my Tacoma and almost $1300 compared to my TRX while spending only $115 in charging costs.
