Rumble strip 07 Toyota Tacoma

Am I the only one that is experiencing this on the new Tacomas? I get the rumble strip at speeds of 32-42 mph and at 60ish mph. I can recreate it on demand and have demonstrated it twice to the Service Manager and he agreed there is something definitely wrong. But they will not do anything about it because it is not a safety issue.

This truck and its problem has really turned me off Toyota. I still can't believe how they treat their customers. I have a case # with Toyota, talked to them once, my contact won't even return my calls.

 

No, this is a full vibration throughtout the truck. Feels like all of a sudden you are driving a standard transmission car (mine is an auto) that is in to high a gear and it bucks and feels like running over a rumblestrip but a bit more pronounced. The truck won't do it when put in 4th, only when put in drive. I have the exact same symptoms as what some Tundra guys are experiencing, ie rumble strip.

Funny thing is all this started to happen after I had the car in for routine service, oil change and lube. Just hope it doesn't happen to you.

 

get the dealer to check the transmission fluid level......sounds like it may be low or something.

 

sounds like they are tryin to avoid a lemon issue to me.

I had this in my 07 Tundra TRD 4x4 5.7L and it ended up being the torque converter. I assume yours is an auto? If so, I would say it is the same issue as I had with the Tundra and the new torque converter fixed the problem. I now have an 09 Tacoma 4X4 TRD off-road and have not had any issues so far.

 

Yes my Tacoma is an auto, did they just replace your torque converter or did they replace the transmission as well. I have looked into it and a lot of Tudras had one or both replaced. But in some cases the problem resurfaced.

I'm hoping to get a new torque converter and transmission, hopefully there will be no problems. Did you sell your Tundra because of problems or did you want the Tacoma and how much of a fight did you have to go through to get the new torque converter.

This problem has really soured me on Toyota which was otherwise good before this.

 

can't bad alignment or tires also make that feeling at a certain speed?
even a twisted or bent frame, god forbid.
you ever been in a fender bender?
my wife's nissan versa is doing this after one, and she's fighting Progressive to believe it, after they supposedly fixed everything.

 

Here is something that happened to me. When we work on our old cars we put our own tires on the rims, using a long screw driver and a crow bar. Then we inflate the tires and check the seal using dish soap and water. With that said one day we developed a vibration at various speeds, we couldn't figure it out so we took it to some tire shops but they just rebalanced the tires and sent us home but we still had the vibrations so we brought it back to the shop but they couldn't do anything. Come to find out we had gotten some water in the tire and it would balance just fine but developed a vibration at certain speeds. Just a heads up.

 

I had the same thing happen on a Nissan Maxima. When the auto trans was shifting between 3rd & 4th, it felt like you were running over the grates in the road. It turned out my transmission was about to fail. I traded it in and when I went back the next day to swap my tag, transmission fluid was leaking out from underneath my old car. Whew! Traded it just in time.

 

Ya I think it has to be transmission/torque converter related because if you lockout 5th gear by driving in 4th, you don't get the vibrations.

 

Try a different dealership....& talk to the managers.

Get mad..... you deserve a truck that runs/feels like it should. Hell - someone on the lot who test drove something like that ain't gonna buy it like that!

Keep calling and calling and visiting and visiting the dealership until you get some results. Become their WORSE PAIN IN THE ASS!!! (aka nightmare)

 

I've been giving my best impersonation of their worst nightmare and so far no fix yet. It is ridiculous, more on Toyota Canada, but how these companies can take your money and then expect you to just forget it and live with it. Believe me I will not stop until this major problem is fixed. It has ruined my new vehicle buying experience and pissed me off to no end.

 

I traded for the Tacoma from the Tundra as I wanted a truck with better fuel economy. It was a bit of a fight with the dealer to get this fixed as I bought my 2007 Tundra right after they came out and they had not figured this issue out yet. They did replace the tranny in full once and it did not fix the problem, so the dealer contacted the engineers at Toyota (or so they said) and then replaced the torque converter in the newly replaced tranny. After that, no issues following.

 

I've got the same problem-35mph and 65mph..had the tranni mount tsb done..less vibration but the vibration/rumble is still there. i'll have to try locking out 5th and see if it disappears. this is my first toyota..and not to impressed at the moment..i believe i have 4 tsbs i'm going in for work on..tranni mount, air intake, cold start and spring change.

 

I would guess.. the highspeed prob is the tranny too. Same reason, you lock it in 4th and it dissappears. Hope it gets resolved. Makes me fell like I'm whining about my subtle front end shimmey at 65+ mpg. Comments though from others? This is my first 4WD truck, how much of this is, dare I say, normal? Some shake in the tires at speed is what I mean. I guess most don't have any shake in the steering wheel at all at speed? Love the truck but hate this shake. It's brand F'ing new.

 

Any updates to this issue?

 

I know this thread is old and was concerning a 2007 but I had the same problem with my 09 and spent alot of time researching what it could be, hopefully this helps someone else with the same issue.

I recently bought a used 2009 Tacoma. I like the truck, but did experience the "rumble strip vibration". The first time I thought it was due to the road surface, but after it happened a few more times I took the truck back to Toyota. I thought it was a problem with the front end. They told me it was probably a tranny/torque converter issue and could be the computer learning my driving habits, they reset it and performed an update. It continued. It did it almost everytime I drove on the same stretch of road during my commute. On a slight incline at between 20 and 40MPH. If I let off the gas slightly (keeping my foot on the pedal), coasted, and then lightly accelerated it would do it every time. I took it back to Toyota and was able to duplicate it with the tech, he said it was deffinately not normal. A couple days later they called and said they had ordered a new transmission, it was determined to be an internal problem. Two weeks now with the new transmission and no issues.

The issue I had felt exactly like my passenger front tire had hit a rumble strip on the highway, I didn't notice any bucking. I found info in a Tundra forum under "famous rumble strip vibration". I took the print out from the forum with me and showed the tech on the test drive.

 

thanks for reviving the thread, i totally missed this last month. i have the same thing going on ('07 4x4), wondering wtf is happening. did they charge you for a new tranny? were you in warranty? i've had my truck for about 4,000 miles...i bought it used and it has a total of about 55k on it so i am out of warranty. do you think the fact that i've only had it for 4k miles and bought it certified would be enough for toyota to pay for it?
