VIX is based off stock movement after it happens too. Strange they know the future price of an index that's supposed to look at the past

Look, I'm just a smooth-brained ape, I'm the first to admit it. I'm Buy/Hodl/DRS all the way. Options are not my area of expertise. But it seems possible, based on the data that I've found, that the closing price is being listed (at least for today and yesterday) as thecurrentprice, and it is entirely possible that somebody came across a screenshot that happened to be taken at the exact time that the current (and therefore closing) price happened to match what ended up being the closing price. If you look at the closing prices all month, VIX doesn't run in a *huge* range... so it's entirely plausible it was simply just a coincidence that it traded in a small channel and was screenshot while displaying what ended up being the actual closing price.





What do I, Mr. Garlic Farts, think is more likely: There's a worldwide cabal controlling every penny and there are thousands if not millions involved in it, OR is it a hungover intern who wrote the export language in Yahoo and couldn't figure out how to export a null, and said F it, just use current, and sent the program out that way.

I can tell you as someone who has been a hungover intern working on a project fighting with exporting a null value - what I would have done.
