Summary:

In the 1920s, a Curse Tablet was found in the ruins of a Roman era pagan temple in England.
The Tablet was sent to Oxford for analysis.
There, a young Lecturer in Philology studied it and wrote a report.

The Tablet says that a valuable, ornate ring had been stolen.
The former owner described the ring in excruciating detail...
... and asked the god to whom he addressed his prayer that the thief be punished and the ring accursed.


The Cursed Ring was described in such detail that there was no doubt that the description exactly matched a ring that had been found earlier, 100 miles away...
... and was in the possession of a museum.
