I recently started getting vibrations between 20-40 mph on my 17 trd sport with 78k miles. It feels like I’m hitting a rumble strip for a second or two at a time. It’s periodic in that range, not consistent. I just had my tires balanced to see if that fixed it and it did not. If I accelerate quickly it seems to not happen as much as it does slower acceleration but it still happen, just less often. I don’t really feel the vibration in my steering wheel, more in the body/tires.

The only thing I can slightly remember doing was taking a left turn and my right driver side tire came off the pavement a bit onto the shoulder and came back on. Kind of “bounced”, maybe not the best adjective to us, back onto the road.

I’m going to call my mechanic tomorrow because I’m inept with most things vehicle related but hoping to get some ideas of what I might need to be preparing for.

Put it in 4wd and see if it goes away. If it does it's likely the front diff bushing. I can go bad even on non lifted trucks.

So probably a dumb question but isn't it typically not great to put your truck in 4WD and drive at higher speeds without really needing it (i.e. snow, mud, etc.). I feel like I read that somewhere but again, I'm pretty inept when it comes to vehicle knowledge so that could just be completely out of left field.

Goodonya! A second person, your mechanic driving your truck with you in the passenger seat really helps with diagnosis.

Might want to inspect the U-joint of the rear driveline. Could be going out.

Nothing wrong with putting in 4Hi and driving up to 40mph on dry roads to test as long as you are driving relatively straight.

For what it is worth, I have a 2005 Ford Escape that exhibited this same rumble strip for a second or two while accelerating - it happens around 40mph. In this case the cause was the torque converter in the transmission. I was able to "fix" the issue with an additive in the trans fluid. I would be surprised if such a new truck had a failing torque converter but just thought I would mention in case it helps.

This is a good point as well. To be honest it could be either and more information is needed about his driving habits/conditions and how on top of maintenance he is.

Your transmission should be serviced every 30K, despite what manufacturers tell you. And your oil should be changed between 5-7.5K miles, despite Toyota saying this can be done every 10, or companies like Mercedes saying every 20k.

Curious to see what the mechanic said.

Had this issue between 20 and 30mph started right at 70k miles. Just got my transmission fluid totally changed and filter changed and the rumble is gone. Have you ever done yours? Does it happen at lower rpms? Mine was right between 1,100 and 1,300rpms in 2nd or 3rd gear like clockwork if I would creep up to speed. Didn't happen when accelerating faster through the same range. If so, it's probably your transmission fluid.

Why 40? It can be taken over 60 in 4HI . I've done 75 with no issues. Front diff temps were normal. Drives better IMHO.

Waiting to hear back to see if I can get in. Oil is serviced regularly but I haven’t done transmission fluid so definitely something I’ll be looking into

I only said 40 because that is the upper range of speed where OP noticed the vibration

So put it in 4wd and still happens. Can’t get it to my mechanic until next week so at this point thinking maybe it’s ujoints or transmission fluid. Only other thing that I thought about was maybe an issue with the rim? But feel like that wouldn’t be only at certain speeds
