Make sure to be present when they open it up. Not that they are bad guys, but most people are a little more honest when someone is watching. With all the expenses you face, I think they owe you this much.

Apparently the pinion is stuck to the diff housing and they need to call someone in to torch it so I went home. Picking up the truck tomorrow.

Ouch is right. That's pretty much what I was expecting to see. I wonder how the pinion is stuck.

I re-geared my 1992 pickup myself with Yukon gears, ARB locker in back, Spartan locker up front and luckily haven't had any trouble yet. But seeing this from a shop is probably why lots of individuals shy away from doing it themselves. If a shop can screw it up, a shade tree mechanic can really screw it up.

Did it spin a pinion bearing? If so, you’ll probably need a new clamshell.

I don't know anything about anything here, but that doesn't sound good, let alone the hit it took locking up. Maybe a tech can chime in, if this should be replaced and sent to the butcher.

That's not a thing. Did you see any oil come out when they drained it? They butchered it and made something up.

Nope I didnt get to see them drain the oil. Gonna go get my truck, replace the transfer case at home, then go from there.

Loss of oil flow....pure BS . The diffs are a bathtub design. The oil sits in there like a half full tub, and the gears bath themselves as they rotate through the oil.

I dont know too much about pinion depth maybe someone here can chime in. This is a pic from when they did the front locker in September. Is anything wrong with the pattern (you can barely see it sorry)CB26DA0A-7DF7-4418-A9AD-3418F5014799.jpg

The front diff is a high pinion design. I think there is a port that oil gets slung into to oil the pinion bearings. I’ve heard when you go to 5.29’s the bigger ring gear can block that port a bit. But maybe someone with more understanding can shed more detail on this.

Well this (before) picture does appear to have all the teeth on the ring gear, (and based on the after picture,) that isn't compatible with their installation methods apparently... Maybe this time they will grind all those pesky teeth off first.

All joking aside, sorry to hear this OP. If its any consolation, at least all these parts are (relatively) accessible and can be reasonably fixed after these liars are done. Better this than forgetting to refill the crankcase, etc.
