It helps if you have prior purchase history with your AD too. Don’t just go there for a Rolex as your first watch. I mean you can, but building that relationship through some cheaper purchases or other brands does help.

I’m hoping to get a Sub by end of the year. I want a no date, black dial. Timeless look IMO.

Was that before Covid when you could walk in and buy pretty much any model available?

I refuse to pay gray market prices. I’ll wait to pay msrp or wait until used prices come back to where they were in 2019.

My jeweler for the engagement ring did a lot of diamond supply to places who were Rolex ADs so he had some good relationships. He used to say he has guys buying up Rolex watches just to keep the AD happy so they had first dibs on the exclusive watches that Rolex had limited supply of. Insane to me.

Here's my new base. Bought it for 60 bucks. Nh35 movement and a nautilus style case. Looking to swap this dial for a white birch style case.

It's strange how some Whittnauers are like 100 bucks and others are pretty expensive. I just payed 1000 cdn for mine a few weeks ago. One recently sold on Hodinkee for 1500 Us same model.

Agreed! Price variability is wild on vintage timepieces. I still want to secure a Wittnauer/Logines chronograph but haven't located one within my price range. Which model did you snag?

Oh wow, was it recently serviced? My Tudor did the same thing but mine was a simple fix,... just needed to tighten the locking screw.

Wittnauer auto my grandfather received when he retired from the school board in 1961. One of the prides of my collection.

Keeping with the vintage theme, the other pride of my flock. My father served with the NATO forces in Germany in the early 50's and brought this back for my grandfather (the other one). Just had it serviced.

A recent build that I did. Was gonna sell it on eBay but I've been getting attached to it. Still need to do smaller things like adjust the end links and such. It was a beat up Invicta that I sanded the case and gave it a brushed look. Changed the dial to a marine master dial and black date. Been digging it so far.

I've always been a watch guy, but never high end watches. I'm too rough on them and can barley make a Timex last over a year. I had a newer Fossil watch I really liked until the face got so screwed up I couldn't tell the time anymore.

So I have to ask, what is the obsession with expensive watches when all they do is tell time? To each their own and I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just never understood it (same with jewelry).

I have a buddy who has a Rolex and he's way into it. I looked at it and it's a nice watch and is great quality but to me isn't worth the cost of it since all it does is tell time.

I get paying a pretty penny for Smart watches since they have a lot of technology and some can replace a cell phone.
