Thank you for the honest feedback. It seems a little crazy to me that Toyota hasn’t taken this upon themselves, but maybe it’s because they know we all upgrade our trucks anyway.

I guess I can compare it to spending $3000 on a brand new bicycle and immediately getting a new seat, pedals, and tires. They just make the bike for the masses, knowing we all like to personalize it and finish it ourselves.

I don't have any immediate plans for a tune yet but I am curious about something. Does this KDmax have an available "remote" tuning service? When I bought the Mazda tune from OVTune years back, they sent me a plug for the OBD port which then connects to my laptop through USB cable and I just downloaded the files OV provided me and flash it to my car. Is there something similar for this because I'm busy a lot and rarely have time to take the truck to someone/place.

Yes we have remote kits that can be purchased and puts you in charge of the tunes when, what, and however you want them.

@wahoobie is the guy to call to get this option. Cost more but has the above benefits

I've got 2 Toyotas and have dealt with both Chris and Kreg personally on my remote tuning. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

    Hey guys,

Just got my tune installed last week and I went with the "Normal" throttle mode, buy have noticed that it's very touch off the start and is pretty jerky. I see that the Sport is supposed to help with this, but would it be a lesser level than Normal mode or would going down to Lite be a better option? I have ran 1.5 tanks of gas through the car, so guessing it will remain this way.

    Thanks in advance!

You should go down to Lite.
Sport is more throttle than Normal.

@Unlimited is your truck a Manual or Auto? Normally MT guys prefer the Sport throttle, and it helps for smoother shifting. If you're on Normal and Auto than Sport will be too sensitive for you with your current dislike of the throttle. I recommend getting with your Tuner to see what options are available to you and try Lite.

I think you'll like the Lite! You can always hit the ECT button if you need a bit more umph.

Feedback - VERY low octane with KDMAX Pro. Version - not sure, installed on April 2022 and was latest at that time.

PapaRee - Vic in Tampa installed my tune in April 2022. I shipped my truck to Europe this summer for an extended Euro trip and 6 weeks in Morocco. Morocco uses primarily diesel for vehicles, with unleaded available in a single grade (octane unknown), and is used mostly by mopeds and small displacement motorcycles. This low volume use, coupled with the low octane requirements of the mopeds, leads to gasoline with much lower octane that the US and in remote areas - fairly old gasoline. Having filled up at a few "suspect" gas stations (remote location, only 1 pump for unleaded), I experienced in some cases fuel related issues: stumbles on acceleration, very delayed ignition (feels lethargic and power develops only at much higher RPM), and engine cut-outs at higher load/throttle openings (like a misfire).

The tune supported this crappy fuel with no issues - there was absolutely no pinging, there were no engine fault codes, and once I filled up better gas, it quickly adapted. So I am very impressed with its ability to process this low-grade gasoline. Octane learning was a key feature i was looking for when I upgraded (from an older KDMAX tune) and it proved itself effective.

Thank you! Photo below is from camping in the Sahara, close to the Algerian border.

Wow! Looks like fun. Glad you were able to use the KDMax tune and keep it rolling with no problems. Thanks for the feedback!

    Kreg,
The tip-in on Normal is very sensitive compare to Sport. I went Normal-Lite-Normal-Sport route and settled with Sport.

Enough to piss my wife off…
Welp, KD Maxx and Dave hooked me up again. Dave adjusted my tune to my freshly installed 4.88’s on my TRD OR DCSB and took care of my wife’s SR5 Forerunner. Her truck has been a blast with great stock shift points. But, the 4.0 has been a dog. The tune picked up throttle response, overall power gains and improving shift points. The look on the wifeys face was priceless when she got on it lol. KD Maxx is an outstanding product and Dave is a very stand up guy. Dave, I can’t thank you enough for driving out to us and I look forward to seeing you sooner than later.

DDB87227-CA73-454D-9C06-9C512A500AAD.jpg Appreciate Rhys and Lonnie dropping in on the Spanish Fort, AL Bass Pro Shop KDMAX tune event today.

Rhys selected the KDMAX Pro 9.0 with Normal throttle as his first tune for his 2017.

Lonnie came to upgrade from KDMAX 6/7 to the new KDMAX Pro 9.0 with a slight variation where 4-5 shifts a little earlier. This is mostly beneficial when in city 45 mph type zones and want it to upshift quicker. Keeps you in the 1500 rpm area. Still maintain power when needed. He choose Sport as his throttle.

Upgraded from kdmax pro to kdmax 9.0 on manual taco lite throttle. The pro version wasn't impressive in my opinion. it surged and bucked under load but the power in higher rpm was good. This 9.0 tune really wakes the truck up! The torque is great! Smooth accelerating and shifting compared to pro version. The new tune is necessary for this truck. Makes the truck feel sporty and light! I recommend flashing the tune yourself it's very easy to do.
