so who has gotten a rechargeable flashlight installed in their truck?
what is a good and reliable one?
are maglite still good?

I use one of these since all my work tools are Milwaukee and I have quite a few batteries for it.
I leave it in the truck year round and just swap batteries/charge it every couple weeks in the winter because it gets so cold here.

I just use rechargeable headlamps

 

I have used a ton of different rechargeable flashlights at work and for recreation. My two best brand recommendations are Inova or O-Light.

You can’t go wrong with any light from either company.

I’ve owned this Makita since 5/13 per the data label. All my tools are Makita and this one gets a battery recharge every year or two. It’s never let me down.

It's cheap, very bright and spent the summer in my boat without ever being recharged. When I was winterizing my boat a few months later it had just enough juice left for me to get my cover's support poles up.
I use a camera bar clamp in the top screw hole and attach it to a boat rail when tying up after dark. The side light has a broad enough beam pattern to illuminate the dock so I can see both dock cleats which are about 10-12 feed apart.

The spot beam was bright enough for me to see about 75-100 feet through rain when I was checking to see if my powerlines were down during a storm.
Yeah, it has a plastic housing so you're not going to bash heads with it like a Maglite, but mine has survived a four foot drop on to rocks.

I also have a few of the cheap Energizer headlamps. One in my glove box, one in my tackle box, another in my toolbox. I have a nicer Black Diamond storm that I switch between my ski and bike kits each season.
IMO headlamps are the way to go.

IMHO MagLites of late have been disappointing. As @Danner488 alluded to, the multi-cell C & D cell Mags are handy self defense lights, but expensive.
Unfortunately many of the less costly China imports have proved to be better.

I have multiple lights and rechargeable batteries from these folks. I've found their stuff to be reasonably priced and well-made. My favorite part is that everything I own is rechargeable by a USB cable. Even some of their batteries have the outlet right in the side.

 

I carry 4 of these. One in each door pocket. Hold a charge for a long time and surprisingly bright!! I didn't get the 18650 battery and just use Amazon branded AAA's in the holder.

 

This is the same one that I got, plus I also have the larger LC130.

I keep them tucked right next to the belt buckle. 5 years now, and both are still going strong.

 

Your post made me go check mine. Apparently I keep a nite core MT2A in my center console. Prolly haven't used it in over a year but it still turned right on.

 

X2 for olight. I have a molle panel on the passenger side visor that holds my flashlight and sunglasses.

 

I keep this under the driver seat, works good as a work light and a flash light and I keep it plugged in charging while I drive. I also own other flash lights but use this the most.

 

I picked up one of these 3 years ago, it works great as a cargo bed light and as a flashlight...it is also rechargeable and has a magnetic base.

For quick and easy stuff. Plus you can attach it to the brim of a hat. It’s also light and bright enough for most situations. It’s a good all around flashlight. The only down side is on a full charge you only get an hour or so of run time on high.

This is an excellent choice. It’s extremely bright and the battery lasts for hours. A very solid choice. It’s a bit heavy but that’s thanks to the big battery. I think it’s a 21700 cell if not it’s a 20700. If you want something slightly lighter then the perun 1 is a good choice. It uses a 18650 cell and is much lighter. Like I mentioned it’s a solid choice, very durable and fantastic light output with battery life that will outlast you.
