The Geolandars have been great so far. They're excellent in mud. But, they're an MT, so not good for winter.

Begs the question: what did it cost and what are projected outcomes? Cost per Horse Power... seems that those are generally expensive. Does it improve Fuel economy? Can that even be done for a Tacoma? Not trying to be a downer, just wondering if I need one too...

    The question should be,
    Do you need it?
    Or
    Do you want it?

I think typically the 3rd gens see more improvement with a tune because of the lack of low end torque, and funky automatic transmission shift logic.

Isn't that the same question lol

It was more of a want, better throttle response and drivability. From what i read a tune makes er a much nicer driving experience, it was between that and front struts, I went with a tune instead. It aint gonna be a Lambo which I am aware lol. Cost was 630.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
I got the KDMax tune in August. HP gain is claimed to be 19 (IIRC), torque is a little better than that. The torque builds sooner, throttle response is much more crisp (3rd Gens are notoriously laggy off idle). Shift points are adjusted: trans holds gears better, trans isn't constantly downshifting for even the slightest rise in the road (often, downshifts were from 6th to 4th, then would take forever to upshift even to 5th). I have no idea how Toyota got the fuel mileage they claimed with the way the trans shifted stock.

Gas mileage is a mixed bag. Around town, it isn't anything to write home about but on the highway it's great, as long as you stay below about 72mph. The 3.5s lack of power/torque really shows in a headwind, especially with even a small lift, which negatively affects gas mileage.

They have a tune for the 2nd Gen but I'm not sure what the gains are.

Can confirm that aggressive MT’s suck ass in the packed snow. Hasn’t mattered for me whether it’s KM3’s, Hankook’s, Pitbull Rockers, or Maxxis Razr’s.

I’m a dumbass and have 315/70r17 Razr’s on the second gen now and I like them enough otherwise to deal with the shitty winter situation. The dually has Falken Wildpeak AT3W’s that have far exceeded expectations in all conditions. They are wearing like iron and the dually isn’t near as useless in 2wd in the snow as I expected

I cut mine after the axle. Haven't had any negatives so far.

I read a post where someone mentioned a book titled "The Mad Trapper of Rat River" I just finished it, what an amazing story. I would recommend this also.
