Had my latest colonoscopy this morning. Looks like y'all are stuck with me for the foreseeable future. As some of you are aware thats not always a given for me.

Took a ride to the dealership today for a set of rotors, pads, shims, pins and W clips.
Looking to get the front brakes done early next week. I have such a vibration when braking it's not funny.

 

I'm getting a similar pulsing, though only 20K on pads and rotors. My rears are original though..

 

@ABA180 years ago when I was a tech and lots of cars had rear drums we would gently pull up on the handbrake and see if the shudder occurred. If it didn't you could be fairly certain the front was the culprit. It only takes one hard stop, then sitting at a stoplight with your foot on the brakes to have the hot pads leave a little material on the hot rotor and give you a shimmy on braking. Can even happen to a new set up.

 

Hmmm I might have to try this. Truck has 130K and I know the rears are OE. I do mostly city and the original fronts hit 60K. Did them with new pads and rotors, changed them again around 107-110K in fall 2019. The truck was getting around 15K a year until early 2020, so perhaps the minimal use is a factor though it does get driven every day?

Long ago I had a car that did a similar thing with recent fronts and it turned out the rears were so worn one probably wasn't working at all, hence the fronts were doing almost all the work and giving a slight shimmy.

 

My shimmy is definitely from the front.

 

Exactly...it's often assumed the issue is warped rotors when it's actually pad material and easily addressed by re-bedding pads with controlled hard stops and then cooling with no stopping

Off to the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk with cousins visiting from PA.

 

My rears are original too. I'm at 239,000 miles. Had them checked around 180k cause the parking brake was sticking. There was plenty of pad material still there and cleaning fixed the sticking problem. Maybe I should check them again but I don't think they're doing much braking if they've lasted this long.

 

Give me a shout next time! That's 15-20 min from me. Been talking about taking the kiddo there one day when it's super cold out.
