I'll do basic maintenance on my wife's Rav but it's her and our daughter's main transport, so any big repair type stuff it usually goes into the local mechanic we like. She's also seen me fumbling under my truck turning a "1 hour at most" job into an all day one haha.

Sure mine's given me a few minor headaches here and there, but everything I yank out or mess with just tells me Toyota really said "fuck it we're overbuilding Everything in this bitch"

Zane's been patient in answering my random ass questions from time to time  but nothing I've done or messed with has been difficult by any means aside from typical "previous owner" bullshit.

Now that I got rid of mine I do. You just can’t beat that commanding seating position and feeling of overbuilt quality.

I’ve read in a couple places that Japans economy was in a bubble at that time so they were just ridiculously overbuilding everything, just cause they could. It also resulted in the million hour 1UZ project. I’ve been wanting to pick up a 96-00 LS400 at some point.

After I save up a bit at my new job I’m gonna be on the lookout. Either that or a GX470 maybe. The Taco feels really cramped on the inside.

    Didn't realize that.

Going back to the LC, nothing really ever needs to get replaced.

Rebuilding stuff gets you up and running for a long time again hence why I bought a used steering pump and will be rebuilding it with OEM parts.

That and replacing my hoses; power steering is leaking like a MF'er.

@se7enine has a nice one and so does @Gen1FTMFW

Would've got one myself but I wanted old school and solid axle.

Yea the power steering is always leaking on 90s Japanese cars, it’s Just one of those things. I’m amazed by how long the 1FZ water pumps last. I’ve heard of them going over 500k miles, while on the later V8 models they need to be replaced every 100k miles or so. The timing chains also rarely fail from what I’ve heard. I know of someone with a 79 Hilux that still has the original steering pump. I don’t think they’ll ever overbuild things like that again.

The one downside of that in the 1FZ is that it can encourage people to never flush their coolant since there’s no set belt/water pump interval.

Yea the 3rd gen IFS is pretty solid though from what I’ve heard, and the 120 series looks pretty badass in its own right. I also love that they still used a manual xcase lever up to 2009. Still not as much soul as an 80 series though.

A broken bypass hose connector can force you to do it though :anonymous:
