I'm just going out on what you've stated before; the trails you run aren't exactly hardcore.

For you it's really more mud than anything.

Head west and you start seeing the real gnarly stuff (Colorado, Arizona, Utah, PNW, California, etc) and plenty still have no issue running IFS.

Not sure if you're asking just to ask or if you're still back and forth on keeping your truck or going to another rig.

Not anymore than a 1st gen. I don't get too extreme though.

I’m just interested in how they hold up over the long term under the same conditions to the LC solid front axle, and also whether the GX IFS is stronger than the 1G Tacoma.

You could probably just gravity drain it through a regular sediment filter from the hardware store into a bucket, top off the coolant, and pour it back into the table. It should go a long way.

The shop I worked at only drained the table like 1x a year and I think they ran tap water without any additives. Whole shop stank like rusty tepid slag water lol

Marlin Crawler has an IFS long travel kit, should say something :burp:

Think you'll still get the same sort of answers here as Mud.

IFS is comfy, and with an experienced driver, will get you far going off-road.

Solid axle nets more travel easily, but the trade off is a not so supple ride.

I can see you enjoying a GX470 or 4th Gen 4Runner more than anything really.

Plus a clean GX is a bit easier to find than other platforms, given who usually bought them new and used 'em around town before they get traded in.

If you take care of them, they will last for a long time.

First experience with CarMax today, that operation is actually kind of impressive, at least the local. Even on down season she said they're still moving 200+ cars a month, and they hit quadruple digits a month during the pandemic. It's a ridiculously large lot. I've just never been to one so it was surprising. It's like fast food for cars.

    No complaints when off-roading.

I've been to one and was really impressed with their streamlined process.

It's when I sold my 2010 Corvette to them.

The appraisal process did take a bit, but that's because multiple people were there so I took a lunch while I waited for the call to head back and sign over the title.

Only had 58k miles on it when I sold her.

We bought a car for mom there around christmas 2021 after she was rear ended on the freeway. They had a full lot, every model that was on our list to check out, and their prices weren't at all bad. I'd go back in a heartbeat if they had something I wanted.

Sold them a couple cars too. One was a 94 thunderbird that was never ending problems. Gave us $400 for it and we felt like we won the lottery

I bought from them over 10 years ago. The website is what did it for me. It's a world away from your typical used car lot. I barely set foot on the CarMax lot--I essentially ordered my car online.

Man what the deal with this tire shortage. Remember I live in Hawaii when I say all the people who ship here don’t have what I want.

Yeah the streamlined process they have is great. I've been looking at the market and decided to head over since things are stabilizing lately and I didn't want to wait as it keeps dipping, so I sold 'em the Subie today; it took less than hour all-in, very friendly, simple process. (Their offer was thousands over anyone else too so I really didn't end up losing out) I had a family friend, who is an incredibly annoying person, he works used auctions for dealers and told me if I ever sell a car, go to CarMax, they set the standard for the used market. Now, as much as I hate to admit it, I think he's right.

The lot has so much variety too. I get why so many people were walking around. I guess in my head I figured there'd be a lot of beaters, but it was all pretty good selection of late model stuff. I'd go back if anything I wanted ever popped up.

Crazy they gave you that for an old Thunderbird haha, that's great.

Yeah that's a nice aspect. Seems no pressure. I guess because they do so much business they don't need to hound you, and you can do so much from the site. I took a look today when I got home and prices to ship things in from other lots is reasonable too which is nice.
