Hey @christian06 ! I bought an ATD recently and it’s great. If/when you have a dampener kit that is compatible with the ATD, I’m definitely interested. GREAT release video in post #127 !

If you buy an assist kit, I'll refund your anti theft device in full. The ATD is in development as of this moment, I actually have a stupid hose clamp on mine till I get it sorted out.

Thanks @christian06 for the offer, but I really like the ATD! haha. If at all possible to have both the ATD and a tailgate assist, count me in.

i will consider this. Thank you!
Very happy with the ATD. Bought it approx 2 years ago and painted it silver at home.

I bought an EZ down kit that I think mounts a stabilus shock on the driver side of the tailgate, but now the OEM cable is trying to rub through its sheathing with not a lot of room there. I hear it’s a common problem and don’t know if there’s a fix.

3rd gen assist definitely looks more clever. The stabilus shock likely adds resistance closing the tailgate.
Whereas if the 3rd gen part is a one way gear (at least that’s what it looks like), people are saying it slows the down motion, but does not impede the up/close motion whatsoever

I would guess the EZ down shock makes closing the tailgate harder just like it takes force on any car with OEM hood struts to close the hood.

am in no rush just curious; any idea on timeline for development/release of ATD bracket + 3rd gen assist compatible kit?

I can always sell the ATD instead of a refund; I’m sure a Tacoma owner will by happy to add the feature of preventing their tailgate being stolen in seconds. Seems common

Pretty neat upgrade for the tailgate. I don't necessarily open my tailgate enough at the moment to need one but glad this is available. Sub'd

Has any one else had troubles with the hinge bracket failing?
The hinge bracket itself has failed on me again, breaking the weld at the open end of the 'U' shape that the plastic spacer slips over.
This has caused the plastic spacer to wear and break. I have been through 3 of them in the past 7 months.

Are you talking about the OEM hinge?
Maybe your tailgate is bent and causing undo wear, the only ones that I know of is the 2016's that had a recall.

No, the one I purchased from you.
Tailgate is as good as a new one.

That is fantastic customer service. I'd like to try another hinge bracket if you have one. Whatever is fair and works for you mate.

Definitely surprised to hear that bracket cracked - I've had mine for years now and no issues with lots of weight on tailgate with regularity. Good on Christian for taking care of you - bet it's just a one off bad weld or something

Hey fixxxer, any chance the little support leg didn't get on the bracket? Could you send me a pic, I'm super intrigued why it failed and don't have the patience to wait till it gets back to see it, lol

The plastic spacer was inserted all the way. It's the metal 'U' shaped part that slides over the damper that has failed which I think is what is causing the plastic parts to keep breaking.
I'll try and get my tailgate off in the next few days to get some pics for you.
