Can anyone tell me difference between frame from 05-08 prerunner 6 ft bed and one from 09-15 frame ?
I have been on one of the toyota genuine parts sites and the part number for a long 6 ft bed prerunner frame (full 4 door cab) is different part number than for 09-15.
Dealer acts like its totally different part but the generation for Tacos is 05-15 so how different is it really?
Starting to look for a new frame to potentially change mine but not finding many used that are for an 05-08 prerunner 4 door 6 ft bed :/

My 'guess' would be none. Or none of significance. Also, I'm not even sure being a pre-runner is a factor, since folks convert prerunners to 4x4 regularly and call it a bolt in.

Maybe @Empty_Lord can verify, as he is one of the frame gurus

From what I can gather is the crossmember for the charcoal canister was the only notable change.

hopefully soon I’ll be tossing a 3rd gens frame under my 07. The 3rd gen layout appears identical (except body mount sizes, still centered in the same spots though) to 2nd gen 09-15 frames. When I have the two next to each other I’ll be able to shed more light on the subject

yeah id imagine the difference between the frames would be small and non consequential between 05-08 and 09-15, or some extra reinforcement say in the motor mount area. All major components bolt up exactly the same. Just make sure you get the same drivetrain (2wd or 4x4) as the trans crossmember will be different (i think its in a different location too - but dont quote me on that)

I BELIEVE prerunner have the crossmember in the same spot as 4wd. Engine is most important. Don’t quote me on it though. Frame measurements will show if this is true or not.

I think you are right, cus you either have to get the 4x4 crossmember to bolt in, or modify the 2wd one. But it wouldnt make sense for toyota to have two different frames simply due to a cross member that bolts in anyways.

yea the prerunner is just a 4x4 truck without the 4x4. the 5 lug trucks are a totally different frame though.

The 05-06 do not have the welded brace behind the motor mount(s) to prevent frame cracking. There was no tsb or recall to my knowledge.

So were these braces largely unnecessary then? Mine is a 07 prerunner so any difference in 4x4 would not matter to me.

Its just odd that the part number is different and i guess technically the frames are not the same but if body mounts line up and everything will bolt up then that would help.
It is difficult enough to find a frame let alone one that is for full 4 door cab/ 6 ft bed.

05-06 are known for having failures at engine mount perches. Ideally avoided

    some failed in normal usage

Mine is actually feels rough and vibrates right after shutting engine off. Maybe a little rough at idle too but raise the rpm it goes away.
