Confirmation on Oil Filter Housing

Hi, Amazon says this doesn't fit my 2022 SR 3.5L 4x4, but I'm not convinced they're right. Can someone confirm one way or the other? Thanks

I wouldn’t hold my breath on that $20 part being better than oem plastic. If you do end up ordering it, measure everything to make sure the stand off is the same height as oem, you don’t want it to bypass the filter.

 

If you are going to buy that part, you should buy from a dealership and pay the money. Too much potential loss for a failure. There have been non-OEM examples with poor manufacturing quality and bypassing oil.

 

Buy the OEM one if you're gonna buy one.

That’s the one….BUT….you know the factory one, like the one that is definitely an OEM Toyota part because you buy it from the dealer is like $40….that can is also a single point failure for catastrophic engine damage.

Now I’m not judging or know your budget, but I’d think your fairly new truck is worth a real Toyota part especially for an extra $20 if you're going to do that upgrade.

Plus think of your powertrain warranty, that part fails I can guarantee what the dealer is going to say when your engine is seized. At least the cheapo stock plastic one will keep it on Toyota.

Funny that it shows material is plastic and clearly shows it is not plastic lol.

Also, when installing these cartridge style housing, notice it’s an o-ring vs a crush gasket. No need to go super tight because of the way the oring seals against the housing.

It will say it don’t fit because the composite oem part # is different. Amazon part # finder will not show what parts are interchangeable.
Oem composite - 15620-36020
Oem alum - 15620-31060

I know they are interchangeable because the oem alum cap from our Lexus 07 Es350 fit our Lexus 18 Rx350, which had the composite cap, and the oem cap # for the Rx is the same for V6 third gen Tacoma models. I bet $$ all the Toyota/Lexus 3.5 v6 engines have the same oil cap housing #.

I went with this cap on amazon which states it is oem and not an aftermarket. Going on four years with no issues.

Also FYI, this engine under the Lexus brand comes with a metal housing, and a metal coolant pipe on the rear of the head.

So Toyota is just being cheap on the Toyota brand.

Has the plastic housing ever failed? Of the 4 years ive had 2, 3rd gen tacomas they have never leaked or failed.

I have 2012 with "plastic" and 2017 with "plastic" with combined 220K miles. The "plastic" comes off effortlessly every oil change

Yes, in the last 5 years I've also had two 3rd gens and one of mine failed. I initially took the trucks in for free oil changes under toyotacare. When I stopped doing that and just changed it myself the housing was tighter than fuck from the dealer so I had to get a cheater bar on the ratchet to get it off and the housing cracked.

 

the wrench part is a no go
