2018 new Frame (thank you Rust!), FJ T-case swap. SPC(LR) UCAs, Bilstein 5100s front - rear, OME 883 at 0, HeadStrongOffRoad 3 leaf progressive AAL, MESO custom 2nd gen (Red/White) LED dome & Ultimate Maps, Spyder Halo Projector w LEDs (which SUCK), Spyder LED tails
Question for those who have also completed this swap: When daily driving on pavement, do you hear a little rattle or knocking sound coming from the Tcase/ shift lever? I am assuming that since the shift lever/ handle had to be modified and the OEM dampening section has been removed, it allows some of the internal sound come through and into the cab.
I can touch the shift handle and it goes away...
Almost seems like the internal bottom of the shift lever that actually touches and engages the 2 shift rails need to have a synthetic cover around it, so that its not metal on metal in there....

i get that sound more from my crawl box more than my FJ case. I still have the dampening section on the fj case shifter.

Howdy all. I installed a manual T-case from a 2018 4runner. Everything seems to function properly, 4 hi, 4 lo, all lights etc. The one thing I notice is my truck wont shift into overdrive when in 4wd. The automatic trans stays in 4th gear. Once I shift to 2wd it goes into 5th? I also just installed 4.88's so now she's really wound up tight
    Thanks
    Jake

Good to know that the manual 4Runner cases are the same as the FJ, cuz those are going up in mileage…

your symptoms appear to be unrelated to the tcase or should be, at least. With a manual case, the ECU and tranny have no idea whether you’re in 2 or 4wd.

Have the same issue, I found that I have to pedal it in 4wd to get it into 5th gear. I wasn’t sure if my trans was too cold to shift into 5th or if there was more load for it to shift while in 4wd.

so, for anyone that has a 6spd with a crawl box, I am going to get a new cupholder piece 3d printed at the end of the month. the company that makes it may sell them afterwards. it will look like the pic below however, the red marks will not be a half cup holder like i have in my truck currently and the big full cupholder will be slightly smaller so that the hole for the shifter can be enlarged slightly. once paid and I am happy with it, ill post up the final pic in here

this is what it currently looks like
    image_2023-02-04_125018934.png

this is what i plan on having changed (in red)
    6spd cupholder.jpg

also, it should come with tabs for a shift boot to be installed

this is what it currently looks like in my truck

Just wanted to see what the going rate for FJ cases is from someone that’s bought one recently. I see a few flea bay ones for around $550 shipped. Seems a bit high, but wanted to check here and see if that’s normal.

Used to be cheaper, I paid $300 shipped, but prices have gone up. I second the pick n pull option. A friend scooped one up for like $200.

I paid 200 and 250 for the cases I bought, both out of 4Runners. Ended up messing up my twin sticked case (was making a weird noise but couldn’t figure it out) and swapped in a non twin sticked tcase to get me back up and running. Car-parts.com is what I used.

Hell yeah, thanks for that. Looks like anything close is still around $500, but I’m going to call the Bham place. Someone rigged up a cable shifter in place of the stock actuator so I’m kinda looking into that, too. Wish I wasn’t. Case swap seems easier somehow.

problem with making the electric shift case into a manual, you will have a constant leak as the shift rail since there really isnt a way to seal up it up with out the actuator being there

Yeah I’m seeing that now. Going to keep searching for another tcase. Sure wish there was a way to trick the computer though.

Picked up a tcase from a 2010 4runner for CAD$200, with 130,000 km from a wreckers, in Dec 2022. The unit wasn't pristine, but cleaned up ok. I beleive 5th gen 4runner manual tcases from automatics will wotk, in addition to FJ cases.

That’s a good deal. I can’t find anything under $500 so far, but am still looking.

I would t worry about mileage to much either. Most these things look pretty damn good on the inside once opened up.

Wow this is turning into more of a headache than just being expensive. None of the tcases I’ve asked about have had the damn shift lever. Haven’t seen any used ones and new is like $260…wtf…
