    Hey y'all!
It's been awhile since I've posted anything on here.
My o8 Taco, now has 224000 miles on it and is getting a vibration around 40 MPH when I slowly accelerate.
No vibration at highway speeds up to 90mph.
I did a search and from what I've read on here and other YouTube videos, it seems to be the holder bearing to the 2 piece driveshaft
I didn't feel like doing all that crawling around under my truck, so I took it to the local dealership.
They are trying to tell me it's the the torque converter when it's trying to "lock in".
I told them just to change the transmission and differential fluids.
I can't see spending that amount on it, when I hope to sell it next yr after I retire.
I'll just accelerate heavy and skip the "vibration zone".
I still say it's in the drive shaft area. There is movement in the holder bearing when I crab the driveshaft and shake it.
If I get the whole complete drive shaft assembly, should it all "balance out" ok with just swapping em out?
Attached is an image of a smooth ride, the evening before taking the truck to the dealership.

Torque converter shudder is common, especially at higher mileage. The dealer might be onto something.

When you think about it, the torque converter is spinning in the drivetrain just like the driveshaft, there's a reason it "feels" like an out of balance shaft..

The "vibration zone" is the TC trying to achieve lockup, but it's slipping a little. If you push more on the gas pedal the trans sees the increased engine load and holds off on trying to lock up.

Google "torque converter tacomaworld" and a bunch of threads should pop up. Guys have had luck with a trans fluid additive, LubeGuard I think

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Change the holder bearing or you could pole fault yourself at 85 mph when it decides to come apart

Yes i have the same issue with high mileage 2008 and shaking exactly as you said. I have been wondering what it could be. I might have to get rid of it too

That's my prediction to my life.
I tell everyone on the railroad I'll die in a fiery crash or horrible death on the job, before I ever see a day of retirement.

OK, thanks for the detailed info.
Looks like I'll be selling my Taco and be putting a daily drive on my 2019 F250

I had a very similar sounding condition. I changed out the carrier bearing and u-joints while I had the shaft off and the problem solved.

    Cool!
I'm thinking about getting the whole complete driveshaft assembly and just swapping it for the old assembly.

    Yikes!
I'm thinking I'll just replace the whole driveshaft assembly.

If I'm still alive in 14 months when I hopefully retire.
I was planning to sell or trade it for a side by side, for when I move to very very rural Pennsylvania/Upstate Ny.

My vehicle had that shudder . I changed the driveshaft, carrier bearing and other associated parts to the tune of 1k. Did int fix the shudder.

After reading through the posts on here, I had the dealer perform a full flush on the transmission and the shudder went away!

I added a quart of Lube Guard for good measure. I should be good for another 200,000 miles!

    All stock, baby!
Before you decide to do anything, check out the above message threads and do the brake pedal tap test when the vibration is occurring to determine whether it is indeed torque converter shudder or not. It is super easy to do, and is fairly definitive.

Of course, check your transmission fluid level and add some of the Lubegard shudder fix if it proves to be shudder. It’s cheap and it won’t harm anything even if it doesn’t solve the problem for you.

Also, a little bit of up and down movement in the carrier bearing is normal, the rubber around the bearing gets squished on the bottom with age. But at some point, it does become too much, and you vibes at certain speeds can happen. One member got a camera to shoot a video of the bearing when the vibes happened, it was definitely the problem in his case. :)

Ahh ok and thanks for the info.
I'm not sure if me telling them to just change the transmission fluid will be a complete flush.

    Ok and thanks.
I'll check it out with the "brake test" after I get it back from the dealership

No need for a whole new assembly. The new Carrier Bearing and Spicer u-joints were right around $200. Took about two hours to replace everything. IMO it's worth changing these out to see if it works for you. Your carrier bearing is going to need to be replaced at some point anyway...
