How's your MPG's with that set up?

 

Usually around 18mpg around the city. I don't take it on long drives because Im a homebody that works from home lol.

I've had it since July 21 and I've got less than 5k miles on it

I considered he TRD lift kit through Toyota, but they wanted too much. Now I’m looking into the 5100 all around and AAL in the rear.
I’ve heard that setting the 5100 on the highest setting (2 inch), makes the ride awful. Does anyone have experience with that? If so, it sounds like you can get new (longer springs) so that you can keep the 5100 on “0” setting. Would this help the ride? If it does, what size spring would be best to gain the same 2 inch lift? Daily driver.
2021 TRD sport.
Planning on running 275/70/17 with 0 offset wheels.

 

Decided to swap the VTX center cap metal stickers for these with the TRD logo.
First impression on the 275/70R17 Toyos are that they are louder than the stock OR Goodyear kevlar tires on the road, and they make a sort of mid to high pitch noise on the highway. I'm running them at about 35 psi, and I'm still going to experiment at slightly lower and also higher air pressure ranges to see the effect on ride quality.

 

Thanks for the info. I hear so many different opinions. I did look into the 6112 but told it was overkill if not doing a lot of off roading, but I would like a smooth ride.

you mentioned 275s will fit before the lift?

 

Can you do this and keep the mud flap ? I just got some fn rims 17 inch -6 offset and I need tires but want to keep the mud flap . I got 6112 in the front and 5100 with block in the rear . Want to buy new tires , but can't decide what size .

 

With the 275/70R17 tires and stock height (no lift), you will likely need to remove the front mud flaps, take a heat gun to the plastic fender wells behind the front tires, and trim and shift the fender well forward in front of the tires. I still get minor rubbing, so I will probably be pulling the liner back to hammer over the pinch welds when we get some better weather here - that will allow me to push the fender liner further back using the heat gun. Also note, the Falken Wildpeaks in that size are 32.4" diameter, while the BFG K02 and Toyo are 32.2" diameter, so fitting the Falkens without the lift might take more work. I'd be curious to hear reports on how much road noise the BFG K02s make in comparison to the Toyos.

 

275s fit my truck just fine with the TRD lift kit and 4runner trd pro wheels (17x7 +4mm offset). Didn't have to do any additional tinkering or modifications. And I have the oem mud flaps on

 

No rubbing and no trimming necessary for 285s Toyo At3s on 4runner SEMA wheels and still running the factory mud guards. Lifted on the top setting on my 5100s and a rear block. I did move the mud guards back a 1/4 of an inch on the bottom hole but it wasn't necessary after my new alignment.

 

I’ve been trying to understand why the 275/70r17 Falken Wildpeaks are as heavy as they are, at 57.1lb, for a load C rating.

The 285/70r17, in load C, are actually 4.8lbs heavier than the same size in 10 ply load E. How can that be? My tire knowledge is limited so please help me out on what I’m missing here.

 

Look at the spec for the actual sizes. I know for the 275/70R17 the Falkens were 32.4" versus most other brands being 32.2". There's probably other factors that affect the weight as well. The 7 lb difference between the Falkens and the Toyos was the reason I went with the Toyos and some of the lightest weight 17" wheels I could find. Look at other brands if weight is a concern for you.

 

I noticed that too. That’s why I went with 255/80/17 wildpeaks E rated at 52 pounds.

Must be the materials they use.

 

It makes sense that different brands will be lighter or heavier due to construction, materials, etc. What I don’t understand is how the E rated 285s, vs. the C, are larger in diameter, wider, have more plys, and are nearly 5 lbs lighter. There must be more going on in Falken’s load C construction that is also present in the 275/70.

I’ve reached out to Falken for some more detailed info, but you know how that goes.

Still don’t understand why C 285s weigh more than E.

And how an E rated tire will “provide more traction” Hmmmmm

 

Does 275/70/17 fit in the spare tire mount? Is everyone getting a 5th tire? Or is the stock spare okay to use if needed with 275s?

 

I actually purchased 5 wheels and tires when I went to 275/70R17, so I could have a full sized spare.
The Toyo Open Country (32.2" dia) fits in the spare tire mount on mine.
Even if you don't keep the matching 5th wheel/tire under the bed, it's nice to have.
You never know when you might damage a wheel and not be able to find the same replacement with aftermarket being discontinued, change in paint colors available, etc.
The other option is to find a 17" spare wheel off a Sport model and put on a 255/75/17 (32.1" dia, common Jeep tire) or 275/70/17 (32.2" dia) if you want the spare to be as close to or match your set of wheels and tires.

 

I bought a spare. 275/70/17 fits in the stock location.

However, I bought a 255/75/17 spare tire to give me a little more ground clearance under the spare. 255/75/17 (mounted on a 17” steel wheel) is a stock Jeep OEM size and tires are plentiful and inexpensive. It has the same outside diameter as 275/70/17.

The wheel and the 255/75/17 tire cost less than a 275/70/17 tire alone.

 

All the parts came in last week, so I installed the 6112s/5160s/ICON Add-A-Leaf this weekend.
The front settled a bit driving it around on Sunday, so the rear is about 3/4" higher than the front now.
Not sure yet if I'll sell or hold on to the OEM Bilstein rear shocks and the front shocks/springs/strut mount assemblies, since they only have 1 year and less than 9k miles on them.
