I work in the water treatment field. I typically work on hard surfaces and in dirt/gravel throughout the day. I’ve been eyeing wedge sole boots but worry about traction off hard surfaces. What’s your favorite or go to boots? Comfort is a priority. I’d like something that i can get at least a year out of. I have been using keen detroits for the last 2-3 years as they’re comfortable but they just don’t last. What do you guys think?

I have used Ariat lace up boots working in an aircraft hangar. They’re comfortable and durable. I’ve used them for about a year before I switched careers and they’re still in great shape with likely years of life in them.

I’ve also had Merrell shoes that have lasted 3-4 years (worn daily) and the sole will wear out before the shoe falls apart.

I have been wearing Red Wings for years. Very comfortable boot. Each pair lasts a couple years.

I second this, and go with their Made in the USA line of boots. The Irish Setter line is crap for longevity.

I took work in Water Treatment, 16 years. I've tried them all and keep coming back to Ariat in the pull-on flavor.

I've had great luck with the Danner (Made in USA) Explorer. IMO, boots are the equivalent of tires on my Taco - I'm not cheaping out. I'm happy if I get 2 years out of any boot. Anything more is just a bonus. I view them as a wear & tear item.

As others have stated, everyone's feet are different and what works for one, may not work for another.

Under those conditions nothing is going to last a year worn every day. If you find something you like buy 2 pairs and alternate days. Giving the boots a day off to get dry will make them last longer.

Everybody's foot is different. Some very well-made boots that others love simply won't fit me right. Keens tend to work well for me and while it is sold as a hiking boot instead of a work boot the Durand is the most comfortable boot for me. They are a big step up over all of the others and are USA made.

I’ll second the Red Wings. They have been on my feet while working the last 30 years.

I'll 2nd Wolverine, I wore the durashock version for many years in a power plant. Walked on gravel, dirt, concrete, steel flooring, and coal, they were like wearing sneakers.

A little of this and a little of that.
Another vote for Red Wing boots. I have the lace up boots that @Robnik posted and also a pull on pair. Very durable & comfortable boots.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I have very limited amount of boots to pick from with my 4E feet.

It seems the wide boots do not sell enough and get dropped in a few years.

I tried many different brands that offered wide widths

The last boots that fit well for me were Cabela`s Outfitter Boots they have now been dropped a few years ago.

I have a few new pairs yet I should be good this life.

I used a boot dryer that used cool air and switched between 2 pairs I have had them resoled at least once.

Because of the welding they needed to be 100% leather and Water proof for the slop I was in everyday.

It is so very hard to find boots that work .

Thorogoods. Pay the money and invest in your feet. Irish Setters used to be a quality cheaper sub brand of Red Wing, not anymore. They arent comfortable. My Thorogoods are the most comfortable boot Ive ever put on, didnt even need special inserts after years of feet problems/orthotics/podiatrist appts. Wedge on brother.

I just worry about traction with the wedge. On concrete I wouldn’t be worried but I’m in all terrain

They arent only wedge style but I prefer them. I'm telling you guys, $300 is a small price to pay for daily comfort.

I tried those on in a local store. The shape was weird to me as well as the fit. It wasn’t horrible. Just weird. I’m picky lol
