That's a horrible idea. What time?
I think expendable income and daily drivers is a big part of it. If I had the cash laying around then I would consider a diesel swap.

There is a company in Colorado that imports the Hilux diesel engines and does that swap, including the programing. But that was about 20k and 2-3 weeks of no truck when I saw it a few years ago.

What is considered reliable anymore? No argument... genuinely curious.

That is my thought process. Waaaay back in time, things were made to last. Today, everything is disposable.

So, what is considered reliable by todays standards?.

Car-wise? I'd like a car to make it to 100-150k miles with little to no drama. But I wonder if that's not old thinking.

I'm pretty understanding about shit breaking. But I expect customer service during.

Car ownership in general is out to about 10 years. Figuring average for insurance is (a low) 13k a year, that should be 130k-ish for a vehicle. But a cared for car should last longer. I ran 198k over 11 years on my old Ranger.

My issue is the overall quality of the build to last thst long. A car or truck shouldn't sound like a bucket of bolts after 50k of daily driver paved roads. Nor should you have to go to a dealership for things like spark plug replacement and basic maintenance.

I think the reason the big three (two) struggle is because there isn't the commitment to longer term quality and better components. I have my first two vehicles made by foreign name plates, both over 100k miles. My heat shields don't rattle and haven't fallen off. I'd have lost one on previous vehicles by now.
