TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

How did this happen?

 

im assuming my cam install. shop tells me friday. not a fun new year mod.

Wait... What? Your kelford cams jacked up your motor?

 

im not certain.... but believe as of now the cam install may be the culprit of its current condition. lets just say my ride was for sale. if you heard it start or took it for a drive you wouldnt buy it. something is very wrong and it will highly unlikely be a cheap repair.

 

Just wait to see. Could be a chain guide slapping. Could be cam journal caps. Could be lifter buckets. Could be timing. Could be... the elusive 10mm socket... But if a monkey like me can rebuild a cylinder head and replace mostly everything above the short block without pulling the motor, I'm pretty sure you guys got it. Just keep the simple things in mind first.

Edit: I snapped a couple of the cam journal cap bolts, torqued to 12-15 ft-lbs. It should have been 6-8 ft-lbs. Mixed up the specs for the front cylinder head to the block with the cap specs... It's just a couple bolts that were close on the FSM snapshot I had to work from.

 

Agreed with the others @White lightning boosted ... Just wait it out and see what they say. It might be something super simple that is going on in there. Maybe shop install error or a simple part defect that just needs replacing. Don't sound the alarm just yet. I'm hoping it turns out all good!

it may be monday before i get answers. its a shop that specializes in nissan Z cars. they can build any race motor and are authorized to install and do custom s/c and turbo builds. one of two in this state. shop rate is heavy though. 180.00 an hour

 

Did they give you a free loaner twin turbo Z?

 

no. i should have asked. the original owner of your truck took his jeep here. the 370 z they were doing a motor build for still bests me for monies. 26k for a motor and install.....but the tech drives a yota so i have to trust him

 

Unfortunately, nothing can overcome a Jeep being a Jeep. Not sure what @crashnburn80 was thinking there.

Last piece of the puzzle is ordered. Gates K050705RPM belt from Napa. Will be here next week sometime. Total was $125..

Could one of the experts confirm that these exhaust cams were installed properly before I button this back up again? I’m bias to thinking they’re perfect since they looked good when I put them in

crank is sitting at 0
Lobes look proper
Ex cam notches sit slightly to the left of the dotted tooth

anything look remotely suspect at all?
