I have similar ones, different style. No issues so far. Better performance than stock, but mileage may vary. Some have had issues with moisture ingress, but I haven't (have had them ~2 years in temps from -10 F to 110F).

Definitely avoid if you care about headlight performance. High quality OEM 3rd Gen projectors are a significant downgrade from the performance of the 2nd Gen reflectors. Cheap garbage Chinese projectors will be way worse than OEM quality 3rd Gen projectors, which is already worse than 2nd Gen. Those products are sold on looks, actual light output isn’t the priority.

    no

    upgrade harness and bulbs
replace housing with comparable if extremely faded

AlphaRex has various options that look good aesthetically. But performance-wise I don't know how they compare to upgrading harness and bulbs.
    And they cost a lot.

Within the retrofit community, numerous model vehicles are renowned for their projector quality to use as donors
The Tacoma is not one of them

Definitely no on AlphaRex, it is a short range flood light with high foreground light and no distance light. Not a legitimate headlight product.
