HID hi/low question

someone just installed HIDs on mi truck. He told me that with the hi/low kit my hids will work on the lows only, the high beam will be like stock with no HID, just regular light. And he said with just the low kit when high beams will not work at all. is this true? or did i just get ripped off?

 

Yea on the 2nd gens the hi and low beams are the same bulb and it telescopes out for hi and retracts in for low. (as explained above)

 

dam. i just wasted $110. the low kit is HID, but when i pull the high beam it is not HID .. its like stock

 

What did you buy? It sounds like you got one of those angel eye headlight kits with an HID installed for the low beam and a halogen for the high beam.

If you bought a plug and play HID Bi-Xenon kit or similar and plugged it into the stock housing, you'd only have HID lights, there wouldn't be a halogen bulb.

 

the guy that installed it said it is a hi/low kit but with the hi beam is halogen like you said. he told me the one with HID high beam is $50 more. and yes i think it is plug and play- because he did not wire anything to the battery and it took him like 5 min.

 

whats the difference between plug and play and when you wire it to the battery?

where theres both HID lows and instead of using a telescoping bulb for the high, they just use an added halogen bulb.

To the OP-
Did the installer have to modify your headlight housing at all? Those halogen/HID setups require drilling.. any pics?

 

he didnt drill anything. it literally took him 5 min.. to install both lights. he showed me there is one bulb for the hid low and the other bulb is for the halogen. they are both small and looks something like this: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...1t:429,r:21,s:0&tx=106&ty=80&biw=1600&bih=626

ok cool. thanks for the info man. now i know what hid projector retrofits look like, but whats the difference between them and HIDs like i have?

 

ahh I see. Yeah, with those there is no high-beam HID. Technically they're not bi-xenon (theres no way for the xenon bulb to move, and theres no added xenon arc for the high) rather than just HID lows and halogen highs.
It's up to you if that's what you wanted or not, depending on how much you use your high beams and what you need them for. $110 seems a little steep though...
