Installed a Lomax Matte tonneau cover (purchased from Luke at Truck Alterations), removed the TRD Sport 4x4 decals, then did the first detail. Wash, clay and wax.

Have been taking my sweet time on this, but auxbeam and auxiliary fuse block are in. Waiting on one more breaker and some wire lugs to wrap it all up. 59C186A5-0E3A-412F-BE5C-B4C9B409E130.jpg

Installed a Rockville 10" sub used an unmentionable here harness. Pretty straight forward install. Got it all done and couldn't get the auto on to work. Had to back track and install remote wore to get it to power up. Overall pleased with it so far.20230108_162020.jpg

Certainly there must be some tradeoffs to the tunes. I hear more power and better gas mileage and more responsive. Certainly there must be something given up for something else gained or Toyota would do it?

Probably the warranty .. imagine if this whole time the plan was to have a god awful stock tune and then refuse warranty service to everyone who retunes :bananadead:

Boreas Pass overlook, nice. I used to work at The Lodge up there and a few others in the old days. Miss Breck!

    That's a possibility.
I'm considering looking into one; I just like to understand.

Don’t worry, the free spirit one is $3.8-$4.1 before shipping!
I’m in the same boat. Never looked at a rtt before, but for whatever reason that “Z” design in his pic spoke to me.
Had to shut off the free spirit video half way through because I was starting to justify…

It is that Z design thats pulling me in. I got a bed tent when I first got my truck in 2018... I set it up in the driveway and then put it away. Still have not used it. But I would love to do a weekend camping/fishing thing, my fishing buddies are not exactly prepared to camp and there is no way they are sleeping in the tent with me so theres that too.

Saw a couple trucks on here with TRX lights and figured I'd give it a whirl.

What gauge and length positive and negative cables did you order from Powertrays? I'm in the middle of a similar install with a 3D printed Etsy mount and the included Auxbeam AR800 cables are way too long.

Made all of the cables myself. I’m using 6awg as the main source to all fuse panels/Auxbeam and 8awg as the ground.

Note: this became a long post for no reason.

I was surprised by just how painfully slow the Tacoma is and have a theory on the tune subject based on my experience. My mom has a is350 awd fsport, my father had a 16 Camry v6, my good friend has 18 Camry v6. All of those cars actually boogie pretty well and I assumed this Tacoma motor would feel similar. It does not feel similar in anyway at all to me. I understand the trans and gearing aspect and still find it to be dogged by really poor stock tuning. My summer car is a 15 RCF and I just got a MT Tacoma for my winter car. All of these cars, even the RCF feel like they will not give you full power from a dead stop, exacerbated in the Tacoma! In my rcf, with traction control off and pedal dance, will not roast up a huge burnout from a dead stop. Like it eases into the throttle even if you stomp it. I can do a 5mph rolling burnout though. How is that possible? I think Toyota softens the input in certain situations to reduce wear on the drivetrain parts from a stand still. So that’s my theory.

The trade off is the ability to get 300k+ miles out of your Toyota. Will you have failures? Probably not. Will it last to its full, protected, potential? Probably not. But still much more than you’d expect from any car. I have always noticed our Toyota and Lexus cars have a bit of a “softening” programmed in to the responsiveness of everything, even the notorious soft LCA bushings. I believe it reduces the slightest bit of wear on all the driveline components. Toyota is not really concerned with giving us every ounce of performance potential but is concerned with giving us every ounce of reliability potential.

That being said, I really want a pedal commander to help while I’m too impatient to spend time learning about the different tunes and how to install one. I think a tune will be unavoidable for me.

Viofo A129 Pro front and rear dash cam. Always one of the first things I do to a new vehicle. Luckily never needed it but it's cheap to do and invaluable if it is ever needed.
