Hey everyone, looking for some advice. I recently had my CEL come on and took it to my mechanic. He diagnosed it as needing to replace my right side exhaust manifold, ok no big deal right.... Well, after he did some more digging he is telling me that because my truck was built to be CARB compliant that he needs to replace the manifold with one that matches, but the kicker is that they are on national backorder and his parts guy does not know when they will be available. I can't drive the truck because it loses power and wont rev over 2100rpm.

I asked if we could just put an EPA compliant one on and he said that when they've tried that in the past the CEL would come back on a week or so later and that I could have problems with power since the ECU is likely setup for the CARB manifold. The other crappy part is that even if/when this part shows up the CARB ones MSRP for $1,000, while I can pickup the EPA for ~$250...

Has anyone run into this in the past and swapped to regular EPA manifolds? I really can't just sit around with no vehicle and wait for parts to show up. The part #, if it helps, is 171400p260. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Pretty sure the converter is part of the manifold on the 4.0.
Been awhile since I stuck my head under mine.

I’m confused, as $250 is CHEAP even for a non-carb truck?

Would I need to have them do both sides so there are no flow differences? Also, do you know if this will cause issues with the ECU?

So there's no difference in flow through a carb and non carb cat? That was my biggest concern.

    That's definitely catalyst converter
What do have 4 cylinder or v6?
Either way for both of catalyst converter is available many store even in Amazon.... not necessarily oem part as long as it say direct fit not catalyst converter universal.
You may try with seaform cleaner which help to clean catalyst converter and 02 sensor.
    Any other code beside P0420?
