I agree that for the "I'm going to do it anyway" people it would be worth something to them. What it's worth would be up to the individual purchaser. I'm just pointing out that the market for this truck is limited if he wants to sell at a premium because of the mods. Your logic certainly has merit for a select group of buyers.

I agree with your assessment, you dont get a dollar to dollar reimbursement for mods

i wouldnt expect the majority of people to gravitate towards this type of truck if they wanted a lightly modded (at the most) tacoma. But since the OP said he was interested its worth pointing out that the mods would put him 10-20k dollars ahead of the game and ahead time wise factor of months to years of working on a vehicle on your weekends.

(not to mention parts are more expensive now)

You probably aren't looking for a daily driver, or this would not be your only vehicle.
That truck is prob gonna see 10mpg (no one cares tho)
72000 miles of overlanding is not 72000 highway miles.
Do you like all those mods? We're you going to invest in a set up just like that?
    Only you can answer these

You can put lipstick on a pig and it is still a pig. In one year, the truck will have close to 100000 miles. Don't look at the mods, look at the truck. Buy new if you can and make it a work in progress.

This, plus...there are too many butchers out there. You don't know if the mods were done professionally or if he just beat it into submission with a hammer and pliers. Buy new, and do all the mods YOURSELF.

That way you get everything you want and nothing that you don't.

For what it's worth, a co-worker bought a highly modified Rubicon Hard Rock. It had 78000kms on it. Asked me to look at it before he bought. I looked, bald tires, worn out front ball joints, broken front swaybar disconnect, clapped out shocks, didn't say much though. I knew he only saw the lip stick and mascara, not the pig. He bought this thing for all the mods. I looked online while he wheeled and dealed and found a stock one with half the mileage for about $5000 less not far away, but I knew he wouldn't be interested.

He found out very quickly that truck had been ridden hard and put away wet it's whole life. It spent the next 6 months at the dealership getting 2 major engines repairs, back to back.

Truck aside I'm totally envious of uploadadventure's adventures! Wow those pics on his insta look like he had a hellavu lot of fun in that rig. I'd be sad to part with the truck just for the memories it comes with.

Oooops! I fell into my own trap!
In order to keep from seeing some of the threads that have a lot of traffic but are not of interest to me, I often "ignore" the OP to prevent those threads from showing on the TW "Home" screen that I see every time I visit TW. UploadAdventure was one of those I "ignore". When I clicked on post#2 in this thread and then UploadAdventure's profile page I missed the fact that he was on my ignore list... :sorry:

    Oh look, another mod....

The dude's insta shows him working this truck hard, but never fixing it or keeping it up. One of his posts show him TRYING to pull a school bus out of the mud. A fucking school bus. I bet that tranny/clutch (if it's a manual) is burnt up.

Why buy a truck that's been beat? There is ALWAYS a reason someone sells a used vehicle. It's not usually because it's fantastic and perfect. Also, aftermarket stuff isn't worth the value. That truck, without the aftermartket stuff, is $31K. Is 9K worth it for the aftermarket stuff? Finally, the fun part is modifying yourself. Buy new and enjoy the modifications!

no, the buyer should evaluate the truck and make the best decision for themselves. I had an asshole like you claim i modified the odometer in my wifes car when i was selling it private party. She moved to Georgia and her Miles per year dropped on the carfax. Just save your breath if you dont want the vehicle. not everyone is dishonest.

Taco values are not nose diving. Used prices are just starting to come down from over inflated levels we have been seeing.

    Reasons to buy new =
    Full factory warranty
    Two years of free LOFs
    You'll know the history
    Engine bay hasn't been steam-cleaned
Build your own with accessories YOU want (that's half the fun!)
    That new car smell
    It's NEW and it's always been YOUR'S!

    Reasons to buy used=
Opposites of the above listed plus a few other dozen reasons not to buy used

    Just this idiot's (me) opinion.

If you’re the type that takes it in to a shop to install everything then it’s the truck for you. For me, besides getting into the guts of an engine, actual wrenching and installing my own mods is the best part!
