I wouldn't buy it for several reasons, but right off the top of my head, if a person puts 0 effort into posting their add, I don't bother with them. The guy didn't even bother to wash the truck or clean the interior. I know that's extremely petty, but it's just what catches my attention.

There is no way I’m taking a brand new truck out and pinstripping it, scratching the paint. If it’s heading out into the hills I go wth 2nd hand - but buy one that is stock, low miles, not any easy combo to find.

I get it to be leery. I was told the same thing about my truck. 2 previous owners over 5 years and 36k miles. "They must be selling it for a reason", "must be selling their problem", blah blah blah. Almost 9 years and 250k miles later, still haven't found out any "reason why" the 2 previous owners got rid of it. I can only assume they just didn't want it anymore! It was also at a time when gas prices went up, so possibly they didn't like the mpgs or gpms lol.

It's always a gamble, even with a brand new vehicle. There are pros and cons to both, new or used.

You're right though, there is always a reason someone is selling something. Not always a bad reason though.

Ain't nothing wrong with buying this used truck as long as it has not been abused. But this one is heavily modified and has been used for off-roading so it's fraught with risk. Could be great or could be a nightmare! Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

Aren't these trucks supposed to be able to be used off road? That's how they're marketed and shown in all the ads and promos.

That is strictly a marketing scheme targeted at a select group of people.

There is an unwritten code/law that says if you offroad a Tacoma or mod it, you can only sell it to Carmax for 1/2 of it's value and you have to drive a Ridgeline for 3 years if you do that.

You also can't list a modded truck for sale on TW cause it's used and nobody wants a "clapped out off roaded truck". <--- their words, not mine.

You can only list a modded truck on TW for sale if it meets certain, strict guidelines that are only available to the secret society. I just happened to have acquired a few of those guidelines

1-modded truck can only be listed for sale if it was strictly used as a mall crawler and washed a minimum of 41 times a month. Otherwise it is unclean and can't be sold.
2-modded truck may not be listed for sale if it has been dirty more than two times.
3-if said truck has been used to try and save some kids from being late to school, can't be listed for sale.
4-if truck has more than 8,592 miles and modded, must be kept by original owner until time of death, then recycled.
5-if truck is blue, can't be sold. Or black, yellow, gray, orange, lime green, red, or any other color, can't be sold.

Hope this clears up any confusion. If you have a truck and it's been modded, sorry that you have to keep it. If you have any photos of said truck on the internet being used as a truck, burn your computer and hope nobody saw it :smash::bananadead:

What's your intended use of your truck? Buy new and mod it yourself to suit your needs.

Hay man, I would personally bail this, and go new.

Noticed the horse trailer, because those are really light horses or not.

Actually this is common sense and the practical outlook, and you are preaching it. Not sure how people fall to see this. Like "hey do you want to buy this tacoma nearing a major overhaul with no warranty that has been used on the trails and towed trailers for 72k miles for the same price as a new one?" Or buy a new one to de-flower yourself and if she doesn't work, you let the manufacturer make it right! Not to mention; in time she will cost you less and have a significantly better value!

    A few.
I have the same truck with the same mileage minus most of the mods but do have some mods. Over the weekend I checked on 4 car buying sites to check my trade in value. The best offer I recieved was from CarMax at $28,000. This matched the Kbb value range also. Yes trade in prices have come down quite a bit from where the were.

    I love this old chestnut.

Off Road has a vague definition. Some people think off-road means graded gravel and freshly mowed soccer fields. Other people define it as launching off of a boulder strewn cliff and fording flood-stage class iv rapids. 99% of car buyers are in the former category. The little hairs stand up on their necks as soon as they put a single tire over the curb.

Advertisers have the job to sell trucks. Which is why one commercial literally showed Chuck Norris surfing a Tacoma on a 30 foot curl.
Engineers have the job to balance what the advertisers say against very strict government safety/emissions standards and an even stricter company cost sheet. Guess which factor loses in that triangle?
Lawyers have the job to protect Toyota from people who take what the advertisers say literally. They are very good at their job.

aftermarket doodads are worth little to nothing to most of the market, so I wouldn't want to be the one dingleberry that was enamored and overpaid.
There's a reason they are selling, it looks to have been well used and they know it will start to show.

I used to buy mile'd out vehicles that I couldn't afford new. One day it dawned on me; am tired of overpaying for and driving another man's shit. I am going to buy a new, lower model or trim, and be the one selling a half (or more) worn out vehicle and move on to something nice, new, and reliable. In the end, I need a vehicle, not a payment on a worn out toy someone else already had their way with.

BTW: that is not a stellar deal, even if it was never used and abused, and a reputable shop did the work. You can buy brand new for $40k, that is insane.

And beside that, just because it was designed for off-roading doesn't mean that it didn't have the shit beat out of it.

Bingo. A friend of mine told me you can either pay on the front end or the back end.

I had a 2002 Tacoma for a couple years, after it hundred dollaring me to death I got rid of it and bought the 2020 with 25K miles.

I.M.O. There is difference (sometimes big difference) in using/working hard anything motorized and beating a piece of equipment to death.

This summarizes why not to buy a truck that has 35’s, regear, and tune but no supplemental transmission cooling.

yes, it won’t tow farm equipment that is probably 5x the weight the Tacoma is rated for… but probably tried anyway.

From the looks of his IG, I'd say the truck was far from having "the shit beat out of it."
