    Here's an old US-market Hilux seen on the street in La Jolla (San Diego) a few years ago.

    I’m guessing 1976-ish, but I’d need to check details to see if that can be pinned down. I has a lot of details like our family’s first Toyota, a ‘72. And that body was used until, when, ‘78?

    Toyota USA stopped calling them (officially) Hilux, in what, 1972?

    So it still has to pass smog in California; I feel bad for the owner...

    Spotted this 4th Gen (1979-1983) Hilux/Truck near San Diego a few years ago. Our family had a 1981 Truck similar to this for a lotta years.

    IIRC, similar pickup beds were made in Japan and in the USA for that generation, with the main difference being the Japan-built beds had a locking gas filler door and the US-built ones didn't.

    Our family truck in Ohio had a non-locking door, and this one is apparently a Japanese bed 'cause it does.

    Odd orientation of the auxiiary lights on this one -- must have something to do with airport operations.

    @Taco critter

    Did you see this one? I believe that is about a 1984-1985, as it has a factory AM/FM cassette with analog tuning, rather than the digital tuners a lot of the newer 1980s Toyota trucks had; I vaguely remember that the 1987 Camry my uncle used as a beater had a dealer-installed shaft-style AM/FM cassette with analog tuning (it looked like a cheap CRAIG deck, but it said TOYOTA on it). The truck was unlocked, but I wasn't about to go inside because this is somebody's vehicle and there are cameras everywhere, but I was able to get a lot of info just by looking through the window. The truck has the aforementioned stereo cassette and intermittent wipers, but no A/C. It is manual, but I don't know if it's a 4-speed or a 5-speed. You will also notice that is has wheel covers from at least three different vehicles; 1991-1997 Toyota Previa on left front, some sort of 1990s Hyundai on the left rear, and what appears to be a couple of 1980s or early 1990s Nissan on both right wheels. For what appears to be a Pennsylvania truck, it does not seem to be in bad condition at all! California is, without a doubt, the best place to buy rust-free vintage Toyota pickups...
