If anyone is interested in joining a RCLT fb group please do. Figured this could be a great resource without all the “by catches “ not that the banter isn’t funny.

When you're crawling very slow :turtleride: how's your steering with the Howe pump?
Thinking of getting one and I'm interested in how it does when crawling or just running low rpms.

Does the 03-09 4runner high pressure line have the correct fittings for the Tacoma's power steering pump and the LC200 rack?

I have not verified as that is not what I installed, but I believe so based on what I had to change to make the Tundra rack work on my 4runner. The connection at the pump will likely require a different banjo bolt as well, I needed a taco banjo bolt. With the taco line, the 4Runner bolt was too long and bottomed out on the pump.

Since I haven't modified my LC200 rack yet sounds like the Howe pump from JD Fab is the way to go.
Just called Harry @81Trekker and ordered one
There's some more in stock too

The pump doesnt work at low RPMS, you need to bump your idle RPM to at least 1100. I made the upgrade because I had to, but I probably wouldn't do it if I didnt need a new pump already. You wont see any improvements in crawling in rocks, but it does make driving over small rocks and bumps smoother because there is less steering feedback.

The priority should be a solution to the steering rack. Extended use is resulting in bushing / crossmember failure and there is no viable solution yet.

Hopefully someone cool like @81Trekker makes a good kit for a weld in crossmember/Tundra rack.

Solo's kit was re-designed with aluminum bushings, but heard they don't fit great either, doesn't really fix the crossmember issue either.

If I'm going through the trouble of doing a Tundra/similar rack, might as well cry once. Cut it all out and make it strong AF.

I think JD Fabs approach is better. An upgraded rack does nothing but transfer the stress points to different locations. JD Fab keeps the stock rack, which is fine, and add their swingset, to assist with load and force distribution.

I don't see a point in an upgraded rack if it just accelerates failures in other areas and offers little other upgrades.

Maybe adding a couple crawlboxes would help with the steering rack issues.

Would think it would make things easier on the truck.
    Slower, more control.

I was kinda joking but I do have triples and take things easy.

Yeah, I am super easy on my truck when in the rocks. With a crawl box there is no need to throttle through things. But my rack / crossmember are still failing.

Yah, that's a bummer, hope you get it worked out.
I'm taking notes on what you're trying.
My RCLT kit is being installed this week and next so I'll have first hand experience soon.

    Stock-ish
On mine I just welded the bottom of the stock bung, and did a big weld washer off of that. Same with the top, just added a ton of weld and a big weld washer. Been fine so far with solid bushings on dumb trails and some dunes

My concern with your approach is that it addresses the symptoms of the issue, but not the cause. I think the force is going to be transferred to your rack housing itself. Failed bushing or failed housing?

Besides the stock rack / swingset JD Fab setup, I don't see what we can do besides going hydro, but there arent any kits for that yet.

hmm I’d be interested to hear from people that have had problems with tundra racks. I haven’t heard many. Sounds more like an RCLT problem.

The JD fab is a steering slide not swing set. They are two very, very different things. Swing set settering replace the rack and pinion with a steering box and hydro assist. Swing set steering would solve all of these issues as it replaces the rack and pinion. JD Fab slider only helps with load deflection.

This is from Kibbe Tech for F150 / Raptor Swing set for reference

    Stock-ish
The tundra rack is bigger than the lc200 rack so im not worried about it, the bushings are a solid piece of metal, and I'm still running stock tie rods so in theory those should break/bend first, but havent been able to break anything yet lol
