I think that there’s a 99% chance that the Gen4 will be a mini tundra.
Look on the bright side, we Gen 3 owners will get to crap all over the Gen 4 forum!

I remember when these threads popped up in 2014 about the upcoming third gen. For many members on here it was the end of the world, with many lamenting the fact that they used the 2gr-fks. So many predicted it would be “the end of Toyota reliability”. Here we are almost 7 years later and the third gen is just like every other Toyota truck. Dependable and reliable with the ability to push 300k no problem. The model will be a complete redesign unlike the third gen. A much better coil spring rear suspension will make for a more comfortable ride and it will handle better. The predicted 2.4L turbo hybrid also has the potential to make peak torque at 3,000 rpm, with substantial gains in HP and torque. We will also see better mpg. This new engine is the technically most advanced engine Toyota has made with a thermal efficiency of 40%. It will smoke the current v6 in terms of low end torque, everybody’s chief complaint with the current platform. It’s a Toyota so is should be the same story when it comes to reliability. Turbos have come a long way and not losing power at elevation is a major advantage.

I bought a 2020 OR used back in August. I like the truck so far and it seems to be a good vehicle that will last longer than I do if I take care of it (I'm 75 :)). However, rear drum brakes that I have read don't really do much (makes no sense to me if it's true) and rear speakers that basically don't do anything casue they have no power going to them (again, makes no sense to me).

Seems that most or all manufacturers change things even when they shouldn't or don't need to just to keep up with the Joneses. Dumb idea!!

The current taco 3.5 should be easy to beat as far as reliabilty, power, fuel economy etc. Give Toyota the benefit of the doubt and let's see what they end up coming up with.

Turbo chargers have been around for over 100 years. The real question is why it took so long for them to be used in light duty trucks.

True. I had new tundra. It’s fast and suspension was comfy but ultimately I ended up not liking it plus it has a ways to go to work its bugs out. I’m happier in a taco than the new tundra

They add a level of complexity and it's another component that can fail and is expensive to fix. Plus, you put more strain on the engine to make the same power as a motor with larger displacement.

I believe there was a variant of the famed 22RE that was turbocharged. I wanna say 85-87. Toyota built its reputation on that 4cyl. Not to mention the legendarily tough 2jz. Seems Toyota knows how to build a turbo engine.

I hope it has a V8 Front wheel drive and a tailgate that stows flat under the bed floor, oh and diesel and available manual transmission for those people.

I’m hoping they try harder on the 4th gen. The taco has always been their bread and butter and the last 4 years have sold better than any previous taco gen.

I mean it literally holds the gas cap in place while I refuel. You just want one that looks cooler?

    Ok.
Don’t get me wrong. Super nice truck but had so many issues, mostly small. Recalls galore…. But will prob soon be an awesome truck. I took platinum badges off. I have a few pics.

All Toyota sees is $$$$$. They could give a shit what the general public thinks, they probably laugh at Tacomaworld peeps.

Keep the Tacoma build cost as cheap as possible and raise the prices, maximize profits. Seems to be working out superbly for them.
