Taco lady, those look pretty. May I have your permission to offer my opinion on ways to make your work easier and the final product last longer? I mean no offense, and I want the absolute best for you.

Jointer will make those seams between the boards fit absolutely perfect.

I bought one at the end of last year and it was an absolute game changer when gluing up clocks or cutting boards that involve several types of wood. You don’t even need to rely on clamping pressure to close up small gaps.

the one I bought was at HD and I think it was right around $250

A jointer? For $250? Was it a bench top/job site jointer? Maybe 6 inches?

Ok, when cutting boards are made thin and glued edge grain to edge grain they have a great desire to warp. Especially since they have to be washed.

In my experience it is best glue face grain to face grain. If you cut your strips at the width you want as thickness when you turn them on the sides.
Knives are happiest with end grain, then edge grain, then face grain last.
Once you get edgegrain boards going, then you already have the first step of end grain boards mastered.

Focus on every board being made exactly the same thickness. Then start with exactly the same widths. That makes glue up, and finishing much faster and easier.

Believe me, I learned most of this by doing things that didn't work.

I sincerely hope this helps you.

    6” bench top, yes

don’t have room in the shop for anything larger than benchtop planer or jointer. Wish I did. One day I will. But for now, that’s what I have to work with

I’m not judging. Jointers are expensive and big.

Thats all I have as well. I hardly use it though. I use the jointer plane more now that I have one. I am trying to buy a old powermatic 50 series though. I really dont like my delta benchtop jointer.

Let me ask you a follow up question:

This all makes sense. But I'm curious if you find that there is a compromise on designs since the patterns won't carry through larger pieces. Unless I'm misunderstanding..

Wow thats a nice modified setup! If only my garage would allow for a table like such. Unfortunately it looks like i wont be getting that one. Something about it being his wifes best friends husbands who passed and he doesnt have access to the basement right now and not sure when he would. Why would he post it for sale then? lol.

Stay away from that one, it just has a general purpose motor that will be loud and will fail. Better to save your pennies and wait for a contractor saw like the first one you where looking at. I've seen them go for $100 to $150 around here. They will have an induction motor that will have more power, run quieter and cooler and last longer.

You can rip it again if you want thin sections. Does that make sense?

Yeah, I'd pass on either one of those as said, wait for a proper contractor saw. Here's my current setup with a saw similar to the one you'd been looking at:

    That's cool!

I always thought it would be cool if I had a maker's mark of my initials in Tegwar or Futhark.
