That’s my plan for tomorrow, I think I still have a roll of it on my very messy workbench. Didn’t think I would need it since the stem nut “should” be NPT. Wasn’t any tape of pipe dope there when the nut came off :notsure:

Good stuff. Is it leaking at the threads of the packing nut? Sometimes they will get a hairline crack after you fiddle with them or tighten them a little much.

A coworker told me it was just 'A' that needed to be done.

Turned out to be the whole alphabet.

I had the same problem after changing the suspension rods on my washer.
I just tightened the hell out of it with channel locks & a wrench. Dry as a bone now.
Turning the valve off & on a few times might help. Good luck. :)

Yes, leak is around the threads, not the stem. I thought about a crack, it was really tight when I first took it off. It’s one of those slow oozing leaks too, takes a minute and you will slowly see a drop of water form at the bottom of the nut

At worst, just replace the valve. It's not hard with a compression fitting.

I replaced a pair at my mother-in-law’s recently in an old house but I was lucky. When the guy remodeled years ago he cut the bead board and hid it with the washer. I pulled it out enough to see and fed pex in where he had cpvc put two new 1/4 turn valves in did shark bites under the house and got her back going. The people installing her new washer would not touch the old valves. I don’t much blame them you can look at cpvc wrong and break it off.

The cpvc stuff was terrible. Luckily, this is all copper and brass but it’s in the washer connection wall box so it’s kind of a pain to work in.

That’s where I lucked out. Hers was in the box as well but I was able to pry the wall boards out so I could see the bottom of the box and the penetration at the plate as well. I wasn’t about to try to screw the valve off the pipe and replace it.
