Any ideas on how to free a stuck parking brake cable?

Where's it stuck at? The grease in the parking brake handle gets gummy after that many years. If it's the handle, take the leather cover off and spray some lube down where the gear is.

So when I purchased it 18months ago. The hand break lever would move but it would not engage. Took the leather boot off, sprayed some penetrant down at the mechanism and got it freed up. Shortly after that I adjusted the mechanisms at each hub/drum. Parking break got a little better.

Fast forward till yesterday when I decided to tear into the center consol so I could get access to the adjustment nut there. It wasn't until then that I realized I have a stuck cable on the driver's side.

So at the moment I effectively only have a parking break on the passenger side. I feel like the next move is to take off the driver side wheel, caliper and rotor and see what's going on in the hub/drum.

Just curious, why even bother using it? Don't think I've used mine once.

Just something that I feel should work, and since it doesn't. I'm gonna try to get it working.

It's the same reason I just ordered bulbs for all the OEM switches that haven't worked since I bought it. Sure I know where they are but it would be nice for them to be illuminated.

    Different strokes I guess.

This. Don't really enjoy relying on the parking pawl.

Mark me up as another 470 with no working parking brake and numerous switch bulbs burnt out. Like you, I've always wanted to get them fixed, but were never high on the priority list.

Just out of curiosity, with so many parking brakes that don't work, what is the root cause? Bad cables? Just need adjustment? I'd like to get mine working, but don't want to just throw parts at it blindly...

I feel like mine was In the shape It was b/c it never got used. Now I'm playing catch up on the whole assembly.

It's really not a complicated system. Alof of info on Mud about it.

As far as the bulbs go... I beleive they are a T3 neo wedge for the switches. T3 is an 8mm base and when I pulled one out it was right at 5/16". I ordered a few off the jungle website and will see if they work.

I do not beleive they will work for the window control switches.

Well shit. I just took 15 minutes to adjust the parking brake and it works great now. Guess I should've dug into it years ago when I bought it. I'll still probably never use it, but nice to know it works...

Adjusted mine earlier today and got it to work. Just by weird coincidence, I met someone today to purchase a Roam case for the roof and had to park on a severe incline. Gave the parking brake a test by putting it into neutral and surprisingly, it held. Now that it works, I may have to give the transmission a break by not depending on it and park when on steep inclines moving forward.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
    What’s happening SC peeps.

Looking for tires for a buddy. He is up for anything all terrain or mud terrains.

He is has 16” rims, but if you are selling a set of tires and rims in 17”. That would also interest him.

    Thanks
    JB
