We just picked up my wife’s 2023 Lexus RX350h, it’s a solid enjoyable drivetrain (4 Cyl hybrid) and the overall fit and finish is by far better than my 2022 Off-road. My fear with the 2024 is it being a mini tundra which is ugly asf.

The two go hand in hand if buyers don't like a product the shareholders will not be happy.

All MFGer's have to meet stricter regulations ($) that were enacted beginning with 2023 car models with each year thru 2027 being stricter.

I'm waiting for the RAV4 hybrid pickup. Tacoma's limited model selection Gen 3 and possibly 4 here in Canada are getting too expensive to buy and operate. Hopefully toyota will follow Ford Maverick's lead and build something reasonably priced and practical with Toyota reliability.

It's not a moral issue. They have a legal obligation to "tend to shareholders" and put their interests first, otherwise officers and directors can be removed and/or sued. Last I checked Toyota was not a not-for-profit company. They are in this to make money, as is every other publicly traded company. Every single decision they make is driven by that in the end.

I just want a driver’s side door handle, either on the A pillar or the roof headliner so I can support myself when it’s slippery or a sciatic nerve or a pulled muscle acts up.

Screw the air bag if it’s a choice, as I have never used them, even when they didn’t come standard and I’m still here lol!

Agree. Not sure where you're from in Canada, but when gasoline is over $9.00 a gallon here for regular, even my 4cyl 5 spd 4x4 makes me wish for a hybrid of some sort. Absolutely would like something like a Maverick, but would prefer a plug in hybrid.
I am happy that apparently the newer base model trucks come with intermittent wipers. Wow. Progress. Next they'll use a new reverse switch on the manual transmissions that doesn't break after 5 years. My 1992 Toyota Tercel has the same wiper stalk and reverse light actuator.
Toyota Canada has kinda forgotten about the base model truck.

    Work in progress...
I read through all the, most, the posts. Mark me down as no giving a shit. I'll check the truck out when or if they put it up for sale. If I want it, I'll buy it. If I don't like it I will probably hang out on the 4th gen forum and bash it every chance I get.

Too bad it's "mandate" by default. We paid for something that most of us might not even deployed it in the entire life span that we own it.

Politics need to get ‘da hell out of the car making business, they are destroying it with useless mandates like banning the ICE engine by 2035 and driving up prices to unsustainable levels.
When my back was hurting the other day, I could have used the handle. The air bag, not so much.

And airbags have proven defective and hurt, killed people, while the door handle is helpful and flawless daily and it costs almost nothing, so there’s that lol!

If the spy photos are accurate its going to have a lower floor pan and an even taller bed rail.

Both of those things are deal breakers. I'll keep my weird-sitting and almost-able-to-reach-the-bed 3rd gen.

 Nobody needs an airbag...until they need an airbag.
Without government intervention, air quality in most urban centers would be absolute garbage and cars would probably not even have safety glass. American industry didn't change because of wanting to improve their product, it improved because of government kicking them in the ass, and international competition.
The American car industry can't even make a go of it on its own. Look at the 2009 bail outs. Look at the Chrysler bailout in the 80's. If it wasn't for the chicken tax that manufacturers lobbied so hard for, the Germans, and then the Japanese would have been selling full sized trucks here for decades, but the industry that hates government intervention so much for certain things ran to and lobbied the same government for import tariffs, and does so to this day.

Or supply chain issues. I blame everything on that now. Forgot to take out the garbage? Supply chain. Forget your anniversary? Supply chain issue.

I would think they will make a version of the next 4 Runner that will compete with the Bronco and Wrangler.
