In NJ my dealer has 42 Tacomas on the lot with many getting a $2k discount especially higher models like the off-road. This isn't the same car market it was just 6 months ago...

Also just for fun check out this truck for sale taco.jpg

Wow. That’s amazing. My way they can’t get trucks to save their lives. And I’m in a Toyota town. I’ve never seen so many Tacoma’s driving around.

It definitely wasn't that way just a few months ago, if you had listed then you might get like $45k for your truck. I think it was just the dealers ordered tons when they were getting $5k over MSRP and now that the trucks are in the financing is too high plus lots of layoffs. Just in the next town over we had 300 jobs cut out of a big pharma co (six figure jobs).

Love your truck btw and totally jelly of all the adventures you've had =)

Perfect example of..."I have $77k in my truck, therefore it is for sale for $77k." Crazy.

The more I think on it though, I think this idea that mods add value is relatively new. When I was first getting into buying and modding cars (20 years ago..yikes) Mods did NOT add value. It was either a detractor or a non-factor in negotiating either way. Maybe this newer trend has more to do with the fact that the majority of folks can't perform their own work? I'm curious what y'all think.

Mods don’t add value in general. Sure you may luck out and find someone willing to pay for your 10 inch lift, but I can safely say a majority of people prefer stock.

Yeah. I probably waited too long. But I’m not too worried. It’ll sell. If not. The dealer will take it I’m sure.

I think asking for some of your money on mods is not something out of the ordinary. I know I’m not asking much for mine.

not sure about your own work though. I feel like the Tacoma is pretty easy to work on. But I’m a mechanic so that might help. Having access to tools and such

I had a 1991 Ford Explorer years ago. Highly modified and decided to move away from it. I removed everything I could except the V8 engine and drivetrain and a few other things... it was how I felt I had to increase my chance of selling it. I ended up selling it to someone I knew through work. I never had any calls for it otherwise.

That was 20 years ago. Maybe I still stand by that mentality, but to me stock or close to stock is better to buy. There is also the the added fact that I can do all my own work and have a vision for what I want. A pre-built truck for me doesn't make sense.

As for OP's truck, it is a great looking truck and has a lot of great stuff, but for me it wouldn't be what I would want. That has nothing to do with OP as a person or his truck. That is completely me. There are people out there that do. He will sell it. I think as long as he has some patience or some luck with the right interested party.

I kind of like the idea of a modded vehicle but then I always have this worry which is when something breaks how will I know how it was rigged up to work... When I used to mod (tuner stuff) I knew all my mods and could list them easily but even with a list how's the person buying going to know I tapped this fuse and shoehorned in that shim to make all this stuff work...

That said uploadadventure seems to have documented his mods so that's good.

I was thinking more when I see an old Supra or Eclipse for sale that's all F&F style no idea what computer they used and how everything is rigged up...

this was brought up in the thread so i think you should answer this. You had so many pictures of doing truck things and exploring these great places but, why didnt you take the exciting pictures of doing maintenance on your truck? (rhetorical)

As somebody who jumped into a 2019 TRD OR after spending 5 years prior in a 99 4R, I can tell you with certainty the late 90's & early 2000's were the golden years of Toyota's 4x4 design.

Not to say the 3rd Gen's are bad trucks, but just be aware that newer vehicles focus more on creature comforts as opposed to the dead nuts reliability you've grown accustomed to w/ your 3G 4R.

Plus, I can assure you you will miss the nut blaster vent underneath your steering wheel in the 3G 4R. Or maybe that's just something I miss...

Guess that's all perspective. My 2019 isn't even at 17k so to me, 72k is a shit ton.

True, especially with the resale value of certain vehicles.

Tacoma, of course has excellent resale value, so buying brand new is not so much of a hit. Especially in comparison with, lets say, a dodge neon, that looses half it's value two days after it leaves the dealership...

    Definitely perspective.

17k on a 2019 would scare me. That’s a lot of sitting. Out of warranty, and being a daily those bushing and such would be unhappy campers. Especially if it’s not garage kept in Fargo.

The simple fact is a decent number of people are paying increased value for mods. And as long as people are paying, then sellers are figuring that into their price. Now how much that is factored in is what’s going to be variable. I’ve seen the extreme end of someone jumping into a vehicle to try and flip it in the Covid market and asking for used price+mods+labor and that’s nuts.

The other thing is it doesn’t matter if trucks are selling for the listed price with some degree of mod value included, only that the perception is that they are selling. And thus other sellers start following suit and pretty soon as a buyer that’s your market to contend with. And if you buy and then want to sell, you price about the same just so you can get into the next overpriced vehicle and the cycle continues. At least that was what I viewed as happening during Covid.
