    SUA = Spring Under Axle
    SOA = Spring Over Axle

    Spring being leaf spring.Yes related to solid axles specifically in our stock suspension setups being the rear.

    Do you spend a lot of times at the dunes? By no means trying to dissuade you but curious why you want to go SUA? You won’t reap the benefits of SUA on 99% of the wheeling around here.

    Why is that? I was wondering the benefits vs cons of a SUA setup vs SOA

    The whole point of SUA is to increase wheel up travel which is better suited for go fast desert racing type stuff. It pairs really well with a long travel kit up front.

    SOA (what Tacomas come stock with) results in more down travel which is what you want for slow and low crawling type wheeling which is what we mostly have around here.

    That’s why you’ll see lots of SUA LT trucks in socal but not so much in the PNW.

    may wheeling is probably split 50/50 with dunes and pnw dirt. My truck setup right now is good all around and the reason I’m hesitant is I still use my truck like a truck… I know some of the tundra sua guys have added air shocks that stow up into the frame when they aren’t towing. Even on the bdr trip last year I was using all of my uptravel and planted the front skid plate into the ground after a few decent whoops. I may just break down the leaf pack and see how much uptravel I can get before the springs get inverted and do a shock relocate. The truck currently has deaver u402 s1’s, stock location kings and hammer hangers.

    Can you elaborate on the stowed away air shocks on the tundras??

    I really wanna go SUA but have like a custom air bag/air shock set up that’s easy to put on/attach when I plan on having heavy loads or towing. If that makes sense.

    there is a specific red tundra that was built/owned by one of the shops in Cali that had a really clean set of king air shocks that stowed away along the frame when they weren’t in use. It was posted on here for sale about 2 years ago but I haven’t been able to find the posts when I search for them.

    Oh damn that’s honestly an amazing idea. I would love to have a SUA set up and a pair of those for towing!
