So I'm probably the only idiot that has had this problem, but in case it helps someone I figured I'd post about it.

2017 Tacoma, my dome light stopped working a few days ago which I assumed was likely a bad bulb. Got a bulb today and as I was removing the old I saw it wasn't bad. This led me to checking the fuse (don't get me started on that fuse box lid) but that was good too.

I'm sitting in the driver's seat thinking about the issue and decided to check and see if the map lights were working. They weren't. There is a switch by the map lights with 3 positions, so I moved it into the middle position and bingo, map and dome lights came on. Must have bumped it and didn't realize, I never use that switch....I'm not sure I've really ever noticed it.

    Hope that helps someone.

    Jay

My exe GF’s kids used to find and flip that switch on every damn vehicle. After the fourth or fifth time, I’ve never wanted to beat another man’s children more in my life.

That’s usually the first question that gets asked when the title reads ~ dome / map not working

glad it was an easy solution for you

I did my OEM led headlight swap a few years ago and was testing them. Thought my drl’s weren’t working, big dummy, I forgot I had my e brake on. I never have on in the garage. Probably took me 15 minutes going back over everything to figure it out. Sometimes those ‘moments’ happen

    While we're at it,

The rearview mirror has two points of articulation. Not only does it pivot, it raises and lowers.

    There. Now it's a PSA.

That switch is a quick way to turn on the dome light and map lights at the same time. I wish my 4Runner had that switch lol.

Same thing happened to me two weeks ago but I saw that switch to fix after a few minutes of frustration.

That's what I'm here for, the mods and the gear.
Okay, it's my turn to be an idiot. And figured this was the right place since it's kind of current. Can the dome light operate independent of the map lights switch? Example: I open a door and only the dome light comes on. Currently I have to have the map lights switch (off/door/on) set to door mode for the dome light to even operate regardless of dome light switch position (door/on)

Thank you hero! Went all the way to removing the fuse to check but did not thankfully buy a new fuse. Did get stuck with new bulbs though. Ha

sort of related, but a buddy of mine once picked up a 100 series land cruiser with "transmission problems" for dirt cheap and the owner said it would need to be towed. Bought it for 1/4 the actual value, towed it home, and found the transfer case was in neutral. Put the t-case back in high and drove it for 5 years.
