I am kinda looking for something since I wrecked the corolla.

Is it a 4x4? Trim level/overall condition? How many miles on it?

The timing is bad for that old man tan manual extracab on C&B.

Edit: I went ahead and placed a bid on it but I wont be available during the last hour of the auction and I don't expect my bid to hold up.

I worked on a newer awd gmc terrain with no driveshaft today

Myriad of lights on the dash but it still ran and drove seemingly fine

It must have a center diff lock that had to have been enguaged which is more than I would have expected

I love having an engine that I know has made it to 500,000 without a major repair.

An ARB bumper helped me tone down of the Virgil Exner asymmetrical styling for more of an Elwood Engle knife-edge look.

What do you have against the UZ series? I've heard nothing but good things except for the starter location and cracked exhaust manifolds on the 2UZ.

I like the 1UZ and 3UZ, the 2UZ is just a middle child that besides having 8 cylinders doesn't have much going for it and isn't worthy of any praise. It's got a weak bottom end, low output vs displacement and the iron block makes it heavy for no reason (remember it has a weak bottom end anyway). What it does have going for it doesn't separate it from any other Toyota engine, general reliability...

The UR engines are a much better bargain, way better output vs displacement, strong bottom ends, aluminum blocks, and dual VVT

What do you think about the Japanese (4 runner and lc) 2uz with their forged internals vs the American (tundra sequoia) 2uz with cast

I have only seen it referred to colloquially but never anyone taking advantage of that, maybe they are maybe they aren't. Doesn't make a difference in non boosted applications and they removed the 4.7 supercharger from the market due to how weak the bulk of 2UZs are... And that was a small supercharger. I wouldn't take the UZ over the 1GR in the 4runner though regardless of forged internals. That series of LC has never been on my radar, I'd love a 105 but those kept the solid axle and straight six.

It's a 1998 4x4 manual in white. It seems to be in pretty good shape honestly. 220k miles or there abouts. No major damage, ding in the rear bumper corner, couple door dings but otherwise looks like a well kept truck.

Your bid lasted all of one hour LOL going to get closer to $13k to land that one. It's a great example.

Hm I wonder why they even used the 2UZ then if the iron block didn’t make it any stronger. It seems like the 3 or even 1UZ would’ve been sufficient for the Prado. In fact the 2UZ is barely any more powerful than the 1GR now that you mention it..

BTW do you know why the 2UZ ended up having a weaker bottom end than the 1/3?

I'm not sure what the purpose of including an iron block for the 2UZ was, maybe they intended it to be supercharged from the factory at one point, maybe they knew they would be making more vehicles with it than the 1UZ (which is the first UZ and was aluminum block), maybe they just knew the price point of vehicles with a 2UZ was going to be significantly lower than that of the luxury vehicles that came with a 1UZ. The 3UZ came along a lot later than the 2UZ but it was a much more logical next step from the 1UZ than the 2UZ was. The bottom end of the 2UZ is mostly weakened by the rods, they're way undersized... this can be observed in the changes to the 1UZ as well since halfway through production they slimmed the rods down in those too.
