Yeah totally agree. I would grab suspension 1st and then evaluate the wheels/UCAs

Rough Country quality isn't as bad as people make it out to be. If you wheel hard, obviously you want something that will hold up over a longer period of time. But for daily driving, RC gets the job done.

Hey again, y'all! I was wondering if any of you had any tips on setting up a ham radio for the first time? I am scheduled to take the test on Sunday, but wanted to go ahead and get the physical radio set up. I got a BaoFeng which was mentioned in the camping trip thread on the banner. Any useful frequencies and/or tips? I've heard most offroad groups use 146.46, so I already have that programmed in. Thanks!

You can take it online if you want to. I can send the link your way, if you would like. It seems that if you limit use to groups during limited times (off-road groups) on lesser used frequencies, you should be fine until you get your license.

This is very accurate especially the info regarding differences in wheel specs. UCA's for me were an easy decision as I did not want to experiment to see "if" I needed them. Not that anyone cares pers se about an AZ guy giving his opinion, don't shoot me lol, I am running 285/75/16's with 8" wheels zero offset and have no issues. The truck gets a lot of offroad use, and performs well w/o any trimming. I hope the setup info I used is helpful for anyone in that ballpark. Again sorry for trespassing. I have been to GA a few times though. Beautiful state.

This week, I picked up a set of Rough Country’s new M1 coilovers. Got these from a local guy who gave me a nice deal. These have been compared to the Bilstein 5100. I previously ran the N3 coilovers which did fine on my last Prerunner. I’m excited to get them installed.

Need some opinion on what tires to go with next. Trying to keep it as light as possible since I'll be moving into a 315/70/17. Primarily looking for A/t like falkens or nittos. Any suggestions? Also any recommendations on where to grab them for cheap?

I've been really happy with my mickey thompson baja legends so far. They are noisy in the road but have done well in rock, mud, and rain. Other than these Falken wildpeak has been the only tire I've loved. I wasn't impressed with the toyo at2 or at3. I feel like the Goodyear Kevlar out performed both of those. I want to try the generals because I've read so much positive info on them but they are really heavy. The Mikey's in 285 75 16 weighed around 56 pounds. It was one of the lighter tires in my size. On that note I've noticed the cooper discoverer is a pretty light tire in comparison to a lot of others.

I’ve been seeing some good prices for those Mickey Thompson tires too. I was also thinking about trying generals too, been reading a lot of good stuff about them. From what I was looking at the Goodyear wrangler duratracs seem like they have great reviews, it also super light

Be careful with Duratracs, they have weak sidewalls. Heard a bunch of people on TW that have popped them wheeling. I even popped one just driving home from work somehow, went to leave a few hours later and it was pretty flat. Filled the tire up but it wasn't holding anything, then I saw the sidewall...

Sucks because the Duratracs look so good. Beefy AT for sure, which is why I picked them as my first off-road tire. But since it's not a DD anymore MT's for me :D

Mannn I thought it was gonna go the safe route with the duratracs too lol. Thanks for the heads up! My MTs are just too much for how much I daily my truck. I'm pretty sure Alan was running the duratracs on his truck too, I wonder if he's got the same input

Other than my one instance and the few I heard on here I loved em. Good traction, not too loud and looked really nice. You could still go that route but I'd make sure I had 5 of em for sure

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I bought a set of Toyo RTs for the FJC. I must say out of all the tires I have bought those have been a clear winner in both traction and being quiet.
I am still amazed at how quiet they are.

    Same crap everyone else got
They are an aggressive AT for sure but they will start cupping bad. I've had 3 sets on various vehicles and all did the same. As far as an AT tire goes, I've been pleased with the wildpeaks so far. Probably will just stick with them. I've seen many stories on the weak duratrac side ways but never experienced it myself and the ones on my wife's old Xterra got abused with the rocky trails in CO. They were E load though so much thicker.

I spoke with a Tacoma owner in a restaurant parking lot the other day. He pulled me over (so to speak) and wanted to talk truck talk. He noticed my Cooper Discovery s/t max were cupping really bad. of course I said yeah I know. He said he had 2 sets of the same tire on his truck and both cupped really bad. He has since switched to the toyo tires and he said he hasn't had a problem since. I even replaced upper control arms (BDS owned by fox) and the alignment was dead on. Food for thought.
